Scott Shapiro, VP Corporate Development, Sinclair Broadcast Group

In a matter of months, Sinclair Broadcast Group has suddenly become the biggest name in the regional sports business. After inking a deal in May to acquire 21 RSNs from Disney and announcing plans to co-launch the Marquee Sports Network with the Chicago Cubs in 2020, Sinclair is now crafting a strategy to reshape the RSN sector with its arsenal of nearly two dozen RSNs. Shapiro, who helped lead negotiations in Sinclair’s RSN deal with Disney, takes the stage to offer insight into why Sinclair views RSNs as valuable assets, how he sees the market evolving, and what the future holds.

As VP of corporate development at Sinclair Broadcast Group, Shapiro’s responsibilities encompass mergers and acquisitions, strategic investments, sports, and emerging networks. He sits on the board of Marquee Sports Network, Stadium, Zypmedia, ScoreStream, and Burst.

Prior to joining Sinclair in 2011, Shapiro spent almost a decade in institutional equity research in New York with Morgan Stanley and Prudential Equity Group covering a variety of industries. He also founded and ran Proprietary Research, LLC, a company that provided custom research services to hedge funds. Shapiro began his career as a CPA for PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG. He holds a B.A. in history from the University of Rochester and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
