Feb. 17: HPA TRX Features Session Focused on Sports Betting

The HPA Tech Retreat opens on Monday, Feb. 17, as the TR-X (Tech Retreat Extra) will examine how the most disruptive changes in technology will fundamentally alter the way each of us practices our craft. Among our headline speakers will be Mark Turner of MovieLabs, Josh Stinehour of Devoncroft, and Rodney Grubbs of NASA. In addition, SVG Chief Editor Jason Dachman will be on hand to moderate a panel focused on the impact of sports betting:

2:45 – 3:30 pm: Mainstream Betting: The Gamifying of Entertainment
Regulatory constraints are being removed from the gaming industry, and technology now makes it possible to place bets in real time from any device as an integrated event experience. What will happen when betting expands beyond its traditional realm into esports, online games, and even general entertainment like TV and movies? What are the basics of today’s technology, and where are the best business opportunities? How will betting data be used to drive stories, camera angles, spinoffs, etc.? How does this change the way that workflow and personnel are deployed throughout the industry over the next 5-10 years or more? Will this be the crumbling of our moral fabric, is there a rainbow waiting at the end of this, or do we find a new middle ground? Come find out!
Speakers:
Steve Byrd, Sportradar
Chris Grove, Eilers & Krejcik Gaming
Ron Luniewski, InPlay Studios

Feb. 18-20: HPA Makes A Movie, Broadcasters Sound Off, and More

The next three days are packed with high-quality content, include the HPA Supersession, roundtables, and individual sessions — plus top tech vendors showing off their latest gear in the Innovation Zone.

An HPA Tech Retreat first takes place on Tuesday, as this year’s Supersession will present a live production — from acquisition through post — of a short movie, in near-real time.  The culmination of the production will be a screening of “The Lost Lederhosen” at the day’s conclusion. Joachim “JZ” Zell, Vice President of Technology at EFILM, is at the helm of this year’s event.

Wednesday’s highlights include Mark Schubin’s always entertaining and informative “Technology Year in Review”; the “Broadcasters Panel” featuring Pearl TV, Fox TV, Sinclair Broadcast Group, NAB, and MediaKind; a “Live Production Innovative Solutions and Workflow Highlights” panel featuring Mobile TV Group, NEP, ARRI, and Amazon Prime Video; and much more.

Thursday’s agenda is focused on storage and media-management with panels addressing Cloud Infrastructure, Security and Access, Software-Defined Workflows, and several individual presentations on the latest technological developments.
