Overwatch League Gears Up for 2020 Contenders Season With Refined Coverage

Overwatch League has unveiled details on how Overwatch Contenders will work in 2020, including a new ecosystem that will closely tie together Contenders, Contenders Trials, and Open Division, as well as a points system to determine regional playoff qualification. Now, the league is ready to share more information about the Contenders broadcast and an overview of the schedule.

This year, Overwatch is refining coverage in order to emphasize top teams and star players in each region. Here’s what that means for the broadcast:

  • Live coverage of all semifinals and finals of Contenders weekly play in each region.
  • Some regions will feature additional broadcasts from both weekly play and Contenders Trials weekly play.
  • Breakout stars and highlights from the earlier rounds of the tournaments will be featured in new shoulder content.

Contenders action kicks off on Feb. 23 — here are the local start dates for the seven regions:

  • Feb. 23: Australia
  • Feb. 24: Pacific
  • Feb. 29: South America
  • March 3: North America and Europe
  • March 10: China
  • March 11: South Korea

The first broadcast will be Contenders Australia Trials on February 27, 6 p.m. AEDT (February 26, 11 p.m. PT). Here’s an overview of the broadcast schedule for the first few weeks of Contenders 2020 Season 1:
