The SVG Podcast: Craig Barry, EVP/Chief Content Officer, Turner Sports

Turner exec explains NBA on TNT's new Virtual Show Clock graphic

An increasingly exciting and interesting segment of the sports-video business is graphics. At Super Bowl LIV, for example, Fox Sports had viewers buzzing with a flashing new insert-graphics package and scorebug, while the NFL wowed audiences with its NFL 100 pregame ceremony featuring nearly seven minutes of augmented-reality graphics.

However, some of the most impactful graphics enhancements don’t necessarily have to explode off the screen. They can be subtle. Much like the new Virtual Shot Clock introduced this season for NBA games on TNT by Turner Sports.

We’re joined on The SVG Podcast by Craig Barry, EVP/chief content officer, Turner Sports, to discuss the Virtual Shot Clock project, which took more than a year to develop.

Barry explains that he and the network see this technology on the level of a yellow 1st & Ten line for basketball and describes the work they did with graphics-technology leader Vizrt to make it all happen.
