AT&T Teams Up With Spurs to Bring Free Wi-Fi Access to San Antonio Community During Coronavirus Pandemic

AT&T has teamed up with Spurs Give, the official nonprofit of Spurs Sports & Entertainment, to bring free high-speed, wireless internet at the AT&T Center for San Antonio community members who need reliable Wi-Fi access due to the coronavirus pandemic. The service will enable students and other members of the community to continue to learn, work and stay connected from the safety of their cars in the parking lot.

Beginning on April 20, members of the community were given access to the free internet hotspot in Lot 3 at the AT&T Center (located at 1 AT&T Center Pwky) daily from 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Families can access free internet through any smart devices with Wi-Fi capabilities, by searching for available networks and connecting to the “spursgive” Wi-Fi network.

“We were glad we could work with the Spurs and the AT&T Center to adapt quickly, and use our technology in a smart way,” says Sue Galvanek, VP Enterprise Networking at AT&T Business. “This is a great example of what we envision when we say we can use technology for good – helping our communities stay connected in times of need.”

AT&T worked with the arena to utilize its AT&T Global Video Services infrastructure, usually used for transferring high-quality broadcast video, for a high-speed publicly accessible Wi-Fi network through Aruba hotspots. On top of the fiber to Wi-Fi conversion, AT&T Cybersecurity’s Global Security Gateway service is being provided to keep connections highly secure and protected.

“It is critical during these uncertain times that our community members have safe and free access to the internet,” says Jennifer Regnier, Executive Director of Spurs Give. “We are proud to be working with AT&T and Aruba in bridging the digital gap by allowing families to continue to work and learn from the safety of their cars in the parking lot of the AT&T Center.”

Participating community members must follow social distancing rules and abide the City and County orders by staying in their car and will not be permitted to walk onto the property. The AT&T Center and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office will be enforcing the government orders on-site for the health and safety of everyone.
