The Switch Plays Role During NHL Hockey Playoffs

The Switch has played an integral role in delivering the NHL live games back on-air, providing global delivery services, 24/7 technical support from its NOCs and robust internet connectivity from the venues for all live NHL games including the playoffs, which have just begun.

The Switch is primarily supporting the national US domestic rights holder, NBC Sports Network, with global transmission services. It has set up connectivity at the Toronto and Edmonton venues, bringing live feeds back to NBCUniversal Stamford Media Center in Connecticut. Eight JPEG 2000 transmit paths have been installed from each venue, including two return paths, and 1 Gbps point to point ethernet service at each site.

The Switch is also supporting its regional customers with feeds of the NHL restart, including MSG, NESN and Altitude. It is delivering multiple feeds in the highest quality, enabling the operators to produce the games back at their own control rooms.

Christian Kneuer, SVP Sales at The Switch, says: “It is hugely exciting for us to be playing such an integral role delivering these live games to hockey fans following all the NHL playoff action. As the live games are broadcast, our trusted, expert technical teams are working round the clock to ensure that the live feeds are delivered seamlessly with extremely low latency. It’s more important than ever that the NHL is welcomed back into fans lives with the impact it deserves – and we’re delighted to be playing an important role in delivering this.”
