The SVG Podcast: In-Stadium Video at Fan-less MLB Ballparks with Arizona Diamondbacks’ Rob Weinheimer + Minnesota Twins’ Sam Henschen

From pumping in artificial crowd noise to player-approved music and replays on the videoboard, what goes into giving an empty stadium life during a global pandemic

While many professional sports are returning to action in isolated bubble environments, Major League Baseball is continuing to host its games in the club’s home ballparks. A wrinkle of all of this is that in-venue video teams are continuing to program a live videoboard show (with added artificial crowd noise) in these ballparks despite the fact that no fans are in attendance.

So what’s that like? SVG’s Associate Editor Kristian Hernandez joins Director of Digital Brandon Costa to discuss the common themes and the unique quirks of programming an in-stadium show in the COVID era. We’re also joined on the program to chat specifics with Rob Weinheimer, Vice President, DBTV Productions & Game Operations for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Sam Henschen, Director, Game Day Experience for the Minnesota Twins.
