AIMS Chairman Mike Cronk On ST-2110; IP Oktoberfest Webinars Available On Demand
Story Highlights
The Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) held its IP Oktoberfest 2020, a live, interactive, virtual event for broadcast and pro AV professionals at the end of last month and now the nine sessions are available on demand. “It was an innovative way to connect and we also had virtual rooms where people could talk to experts,” says Mike Cronk, AIMS chairman of the board. “It was more successful than we thought it would be.”
Cronk says that SMPTE ST-2110 continues to make gains, especially in areas like making configurations and connections simpler. And the AIMS membership continues to add members from the professional A/V community and that efforts related to IP in that community, notably IPMX and new ways to put the ST-2022 standard for compressed transport is the kind of work that could benefit the traditional broadcast market.
“Things they are working on can go back into the broadcast world and help make things simpler,” he says. “That is one of the reasons AIMS is a great clearing house as it allows for a meta conversations about what we need to do to make IP more streamlined and effective.”
