CEO/President Tim Shoulders Leaving Grass Valley; Louis Hernandez Jr. To Take Over

Grass Valley CEO/President Tim Shoulders and GM, Live Production, Marco Lopez are leaving the company. The GV leadership team will report to Louis Hernandez Jr., executive chairman, GV, and CEO, Black Dragon. The news was first reported by TVNewsCheck.

Tim Shoulders is departing Grass Valley.

“Grass Valley has recently simplified its organizational structure in order to accelerate the focus on the company’s GV Media Universe (GVMU) strategy,” Grass Valley CMO Neil Maycock said in a statement. “The changes will enable the company to capitalize on the strong market response to the GVMU and make investments in its award-winning product suite.”

Black Dragon announced its intention to acquire Grass Valley from Belden Inc. in February 2020 and completed the deal in July 2020.

The GV leadership team will report to Louis Hernandez Jr, Executive Chairman of GV, and CEO of Black Dragon.

The company’s next phase of growth will include a focus on expanding the overall product suite and emphasizing its cloud-native platform.

In addition to Hernandez, the leadership will include CFO Michael Hofer, responsible for finance, General and Administration; CRO Jan Lange, all client relationships, alliances, and partnerships; CTO Sydney Lovely, all product and company technology; and Maycock, all product, client delivery, and marketing. The company thanks the outgoing executives for their support in managing the transition from Belden.

Hernandez was chairman/CEO of Avid from 2013 to 2018, overseeing the company’s transition to becoming one of the first broadcast-focused companies to transition to cloud-based architecture. (For an interview with Hernandez from NAB 2017, click here.)

Last month, Shoulders discussed the AMPP solution, which is at the core of Grass Valley’s cloud-based offering.

“Our AMPP solutions provide end-to-end production workflows with a set of cloud-based features and performance that is familiar to broadcast-equipment operators,” he said. “While we expand beyond traditional constraints associated with on-prem solutions, the efficiency of the GV AMPP platform allows us to quickly develop applications in areas where we might not have been a large market-share player.”

The AMPP efforts are virtualizing a wide range of production functions that previously required hardware, and there is a special focus on re-creating a studio-control room in the cloud.
