Mediapro Canada To Provide Mobile Unit for 2022 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic

MEDIAPRO Canada has been selected to provide the production mobile unit for the 2022 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic outdoor game at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario, on March 13.

The appointment is the company’s third production for a North American major sports league in less than five months; the company provided the 2021 Grey Cup in-house feed, including fan coverage, pre-game events and the Sirius XM Grey Cup Tailgate headlined by Canadian band The Trews in November; and last month was selected to provide a mobile unit to produce studio coverage for the 71st edition of the NBA All-Star Game in Cleveland.

Chris Priess, VP Broadcast Services at MEDIAPRO Canada, said that the production will mark a “further milestone in the company’s portfolio”, with the NHL, NBA and CFL productions joining a long list of high-level contracts for sports events ranging from FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament for men’s basketball, pre-game host analysis for NCAA College Football, Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) games for the CBC, every home game played by Canada Soccer’s National Men’s Team in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifying, home matches played by Canadian professional teams in the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League, Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team Celebration Tour matches and of course, live coverage of every match played in the Canadian Premier League (CPL) – which kicks off its fourth season on April 7th.

MEDIAPRO will bring its 4K/HD multiformat mobile unit Odyssey to Hamilton to produce coverage of the pre- and post-game shows and intermission entertainment – including superstar pop-punk performer and TikTok heavy-hitter Willow who will headline the event’s pre-game show. Willow’s performance from the TikTok Tailgate Stage will be livestreamed on @NHL on TikTok from 2.45pm ET / 11.45am PT.

The game itself, which will see the Toronto Maple Leafs play the Buffalo Sabres, will air live on Sportsnet, TVA Sports and NHL Live in Canada and TNT in the US, starting at 4pm ET / 1pm PT. This year’s game marks the sixth NHL Heritage Classic, a game with roots dating back to November 22, 2003, when the Edmonton Oilers hosted the Montreal Canadiens in the first NHL regular-season outdoor game. The Maple Leafs-Sabres matchup will be the 35th outdoor NHL game and third one this season.

The NHL Heritage Classic production takes place two weeks before MEDIAPRO Canada gears up to host broadcast of one of the biggest soccer matches of the year on Canadian soil to date – the last home match in Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM qualifying, also at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, when Canada takes on Jamaica in its historic quest to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1986. Canada currently sits undefeated on top of the Concacaf standings, ahead of the US and Mexico, with three matches to play.
