SMT Rolls Out Enhanced Virtual Graphics for NCAA Men’s Regionals, Final Four

SMT, the leading data integration, graphics presentation and video enhancement solutions provider for live sports, is again providing every piece of real-time, game-driven statistical interface to each of the 67 games of the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

This year, the NCAA regionals and Final Four games will feature enhanced on-court virtual graphics, such as the virtual shot zone and player cards that are inserted onto the court, made possible by SMT’s Camera Tracker technology.

For the past 22 years, fans and TV production crews have relied on SMT’s technology to understand and appreciate the nuances of every game throughout the tournament. SMT’s systems synchronize clock, score, and statistics from each game and feeds the data in real-time to statistical graphics displayed instantly on-screen for CBS Sports and Turner Sports broadcasters.

To gather the information, SMT production teams are stationed at every venue, spotting courtside and inputting baskets scored, steals, assists, rebounds and fouls to update the box score used by commentators. SMT’s ticker graphics inform viewers with content including upcoming games, scores and game notes.

Lee Brinson, SMT director of special events, leads SMT’s NCAA men’s tournament team, as he has every year since 2000.
