HBS Broadcast Academy Directing Course To Be Held in NJ Oct. 3-6

The HBS Broadcast Academy is holding an in-person sports- directing course Oct. 3-6. The course will be led by sports director Sebastian von Freyberg and is designed to help professionals interested in honing their live sports-directing skills and in mastering the art of storytelling.

The HBS Broadcast Academy will offer another directing class in early October.

Set to be held at the EVS office in Fairfield, NJ, the course is priced $2,400 and has 10 slots available. The Live Sports Direction course incorporates the essence of HBS’s experience of working on world-class sports events and uses state-of-the-art EVS broadcast technology that replicates a remote-production environment to replace expensive production infrastructures.

This objective of the training is to benefit those who would like to take on the lead role in sports direction, practice the art of storytelling, and handle different camera formations. Theoretical and practical aspects of the course are designed to encourage and develop the expertise and creativity of participants. The course will focus on football, basketball, and baseball.

Course objectives include:

  • To adopt the best practice for sports storytelling across slow motion and replays in soccer, basketball, baseball, and other relevant sports
  • Understand the use of different cameras in a live sports production
  • Develop the ability to undertake medium to large productions
  • Understand various roles in a production team and work effectively as a team
  • Be able to effectively use the configured EVS XT3 and X-One
