BIG EAST To Use ShotTracker To Enhance Women’s Basketball Tournament Coverage

The BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament presented by JEEP is set for March 3-6 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. With tipoff just days away, the Conference announced its Tournament coverage, which includes all 10 games being televised for the first time and the broadcasts enhanced by the use of ShotTracker.

ShotTracker is a revolutionary sensor-based system that delivers statistics and analytics to teams, fans and broadcast networks instantly, enhancing the experience of the game — both on and off the court. ShotTracker sensors are in the game balls, player uniforms and inside the rafters of Mohegan Sun Arena. All of the data collected by the sensors gets fed into the ShotTracker system in real time. ShotTracker captures everything from who has possession of the ball, what hoop they shot on and whether or not the ball went in or missed to who got the rebound or the assist.

All games will have the ShotTracker information woven into the wire-to-wire television coverage. For the first time, SNY will air the BIG EAST Tournament First Round, which begins with the matchup of No. 9 seed Georgetown against No. 8 seed Butler at 11 a.m. ET on March 3. The 7-10 game follows when DePaul squares off with Providence at 1:30 p.m., before the 6-11 matchup at 4 p.m. which sees Seton Hall take on Xavier. John Fanta and Kim Adams will call the day’s first and third games, while Fanta and former Villanova head coach Harry Perretta will call Game 2. Meghan Caffrey will be on sideline for all three First Round games on SNY. Scott Hecht, BIG EAST Senior Associate Commissioner for Broadcasting, will serve as producer for the First Round.

BIG EAST television partner FOX Sports takes over the rest of the way, beginning at noon on March 4 for the Quarterfinals when No. 1 seed Connecticut gets the winner of the Georgetown-Butler game on FS1. For the remaining three Quarterfinal games, FS2 will provide coverage, beginning with the 4-5 matchup which sees St. John’s against Marquette at 2:30 p.m. The evening session tips off at 7 p.m. on FS2 when No. 2 seed Villanova gets the Providence-DePaul winner, before the nightcap at 9:30 p.m. sees No. 3 seed Creighton against the Xavier-Seton Hall winner. Fanta, Adams and Caffrey will be on the call for all four of Saturday’s showdowns.

FS1 will air the final three games of the BIG EAST Tournament, beginning with the Semifinals on March 5. Saturday’s afternoon session winners will meet at 3 p.m., followed by the evening session winners at 5:30 p.m. Matt Schumacker will take over play-by-play duties, joining Adams and Caffrey on the call. A champion will be crowned on March 6 with semifinal winners meeting at 7 p.m. on FS1. Schumacker will be joined by Sarah Kustok on the call, with Adams sideline reporting. Carol Langley will produce all seven games that are airing on FS1 and FS2.

All games that air on SNY, FS1 and FS2 can also be streamed on the FOX Sports app, while FloSports will also stream the First Round.

In addition to the comprehensive television coverage, the BIG EAST Digital Network will provide shoulder programming and additional reporting, including postgame interviews, press conferences and live hits throughout the four-day event. BEDN correspondents include Caffrey, Johnny Soper and Lisa Roman. BEDN will tipoff the postseason on March 3 at 10:30 a.m. ET on FloHoops with a pregame show ahead the 8-9 First Round contest.
