NAB 2023: G&D Adding Type-C Variants to its VisionXS Product Series for the Control Room of the Future

Guntermann & Drunck (G&D) is expanding its VisionXS product series. Modern devices can be integrated into the overall installation thanks to the new extender variants for USB Type-C.G&D is continuing to expand its VisionXS product series further. The KVM extenders are matrix-compatible and offer resolutions of up to 4K @ 60 Hz and a broad range of features for an optimal user experience. The systems are available in both variants, as KVM-over-IP systems or for classic direct transmission.
The company is introducing its latest addition to the VisionXS family: the VisionXS Type-C computer modules. These products enable modern sources to be incorporated, such as USB-C computers, notebooks, tablets and even smartphones, following the trend towards an improved and universal USB standard.

An investment in the future: the VisionXS with Type-C connection

The new USB-C standard brings considerable improvements, and these improvements are exploited to the full by the new VisionXS and VisionXS-IP modules supporting USB-Type-C. The connection can be used to transmit video signals, keyboard and mouse signals and audio, all via a single cable. Furthermore, even the module’s power supply can be provided via the connection.

The Type-C variant transfers DisplayPort1.2 signals in Alt-Mode and enables a maximum resolution of up to 4096 x 2160 @ 60 Hz. For the VisionXS series, G&D uses its tried-and-tested, lossless compression bluedec, which enables authentic, pixel-perfect video transmission. In addition to the video signal and the keyboard and mouse signals, the computer module transmits embedded stereo audio and optionally the USB classes HID (human interface device) and mass storage device, all conveniently via one single interface. This means less cabling is needed and makes installation easier.

“We’re extremely proud to present the Type-C variants of our VisionXS product series to the KVM industry and our customers. Type-C represents a revolutionary solution for modern computer sources and seems well on its way to becoming a new innovative standard”, says Roland Ollek, CEO of G&D. “We are confident that VisionXS with Type-C connection with its wide range of possible applications at minimal cabling effort will be a fantastic solution for numerous projects. “

Clever security features minimize risks in critical control rooms

The new computer modules are compatible with other G&D components and can be used either as an extender or in a matrix installation. Either CAT cables or fiber optic cables are used, with IP-based or dedicated transmission. All KVM solutions from G&D are designed for 24/7 use and ensure that critical processes can be controlled reliably and without any disruptions. To maximize the reliability of the overall installation, additional redundancies can be developed. The implementation of a transmission redundancy solution normally calls for the use of additional hardware. Products from the VisionXS series offer integrated transmission redundancy without any additional hardware. The function is activated simply using a software feature key, either during set-up or at any later date. This solution can increase the security and reliability of installations without any additional hardware costs being incurred.

The new variants with USB-C support will be available in the series in June 2023. For a sneak preview, however, visit G&D at the NAB Show in Las Vegas from 16 to 19 April at stand N1967.
