2023 Sports Emmys: NBC Sports’ David Barton on Designing the Creative Canvas for the Beijing Winter Games

The Sports Emmy for Outstanding Graphic Design - Event/Show was given to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics graphics package

With various sports taking place at different venues across an expansive city, developing a cohesive graphics package for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics was critical. Coming off of the postponed 2020 Tokyo Summer Games six months prior, the turnaround time to come up with something that was aesthetically pleasing and functional was the biggest challenge. The herculean effort was recognized with the 2023 Sports Emmy for Outstanding Graphic Design – Event/Show.

At the ceremony, NBC Sports’ Vice President, Creative, David Barton, dissects how winning this award validates the work of the entire graphics team and ran through the list of notable colleagues that contributed to the project.
