MEDIAPRO Canada Uses Canon 4K UHD 90x Broadcast Lenses to Provide Coverage of GT20 Canada Cricket Tournament

MEDIAPRO Canada joins forces with Canon Canada to produce world feed coverage of the 2023 Global T20 Canada cricket tournament held at the TD Cricket Arena in Brampton, Ontario.

MEDIAPRO Canada used a total of 14 Canon 4K lenses, consisting of 11 – 90x, 2 – 25x and 1 wide angle to capture every second of the GT20, Canada’s premier cricket tournament. A crew of camera operators from around the world used the Canon 4K UHD DIGISUPER 90 (UJ90x9B) broadcast lenses, which feature 90x zoom ratio and combine a respectably wide 9mm setting with an extreme telephoto setting of 810mm focal length.

John Brodie, MEDIAPRO Canada VP Operations, says that “a big part of our decision to acquire Canon lenses is due to the exceptional service that we receive from Canon Canada”.

Chris Priess, MEDIAPRO Canada VP Sales, adds, “this is the first time we’ve used this many Canon 4K lenses on a single production and the final product reflects the high calibre expected from our clients”.

Carlo Beltrano, Account Executive at Canon Canada, comments that “like the other MEDIAPRO offices around the world, MEDIAPRO Canada relies on the high performance of Canon UHD lenses as well as the technical support from our local state-of-the-art factory service facility to cover important major events like this one. Congratulations on another successful GT20 production.”

MEDIAPRO Canada produced full end-to-end production of the 25-match 18-day event with a complement of 25 cameras and an international crew of 40 broadcast professionals working across the company’s 53’ mobile unit Alto, in partnership with MEDIAPRO Middle East, which managed the executive production end-to-end, hiring all international talent and creative crew for the production, and served as consultants to the organizers of the Global T20 for international media distribution of the event.

Already the second most-watched sport in the world after soccer, cricket has been billed as ‘the next big thing’ in North American sports and the appeal of the Global T20, with its lineup of international cricket stars and shortened T20 format, was made clear when over 130 million people worldwide watched the 2019 edition of the tournament.

This year’s tournament is expected to have reached some 150 million viewers around the world, including a passionate Canadian fanbase through live coverage on CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca and the CBC Sports App (all 25 matches) with the Championship Final on August 6th also broadcast on the CBC national network.
