NFL Will Be Using Facial Recognition Technology for All Teams This Season

The National Football League announces  it will deploy facial recognition technology this season to improve game-day security.

All 32 NFL teams are expected to using facial recognition tech where thousands of credentialed media, game officials, front office staff, team staff, locker room staff, stadium security, and certain guests entering the stadium will be screened to verify their identity before entering dedicated “secure spaces.” The NFL will not be using the technology at the ticketing gates and fan entrances.

Those who are considered credentialed attendees will take a selfie before they arrive at the stadium, and then the facial recognition tech platform will verify their identity. When they arrive at the stadium and walk through security checkpoints, their credentials will be checked via a separate credentialing platform.

While the technology will not be used in widespread fashion for fans, some teams are expected to explore use of the facial recognition technology to scan the faces of ticket holders. According to reports, this technology has been used for fan screening at Atlanta Falcon and Cleveland Brown games.
