When the RSN contract expired for the Utah Jazz following the 2022-23 NBA season, Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) introduced a new sports media division, SEG Media, to create a unique broadcast content production and distribution strategy for the team.
The approach removed prior barriers for fans to access content, created even more insider content to bring fans closer to the team than ever before, and gave SEG Media full autonomy of its content distribution through a comprehensive, three-pronged strategy (over-the-air TV, Jazz+ streaming service, a broader broadcast footprint beyond Utah).
In this exclusive conversation, Travis Henderson, Senior Vice President of Broadcasting at the Utah Jazz and Caroline Klein, Chief Communications Officer for Smith Entertainment Group discussed how their existing broadcast operation and infrastructure paved the way for a successful first season and what’s next for SEG Media as Utah’s sports footprint expands.
