SEG Media Launches New DTC Streaming Service for Utah Hockey Club in Partnership With Kiswe
Three subscription services aim to showcase the best of Utah
Smith Entertainment Group, owner of the Utah Jazz and new Utah Hockey Club, revealed details of its UtahHC+ in-market, direct-to-consumer streaming service for the new NHL franchise’s inaugural season. In addition, SEG Media introduced SEG+, a bundle that provides access to all UtahHC+ and Jazz+ (which launched last year) content in one convenient place.
Powered by Kiswe and deploying its DTC streaming technology and services, all three streaming services feature enhanced capabilities, such as DVR and Search functionality. Programming comprises live games, video-on-demand (VOD) content, game-specific alternative broadcasts, and more insider programming — all produced by SEG Media. In addition to Kiswe’s DTC streaming technology and services, Jazz+ leverages the NBA’s Next Gen integrated digital platform.
“There has never been a more exciting time to be a sports fan in Utah,” says Caroline Klein, chief communications officer, Smith Entertainment Group. “We are committed to making sure our fanbase can easily engage in every minute of the action this season with Utah Hockey Club and the Utah Jazz, however they want to watch. We gained valuable insight into our fans’ streaming preferences last season and look forward to creating even more memories with them through the front-row access and intuitive experiences that SEG+, UtahHC+, and Jazz+ provide.”
UtahHC+ Debuts Today
Among the content in today’s launch of UtahHC+ is Episode 1 of Fresh Ice Presented by Delta Air Lines, an all-new, exclusive series documenting moments — both on and off the ice — from Utah Hockey Club’s inaugural season. UtahHC+ gives subscribers access to live coverage of 75+ Utah Hockey Club preseason and regular-season games and pre/postgame shows, except exclusive nationally televised games. Live game coverage begins with the club’s first preseason game — against the St. Louis Blues at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, IA — at 5 p.m. MT on Sept. 22.
Utah Hockey Club also welcomes former NHL player Tyson Nash as a UtahHC+ personality and analyst. Having spent the previous 14 seasons as an Arizona Coyotes broadcaster, he will contribute to UtahHC+ content, host altcasts throughout the season, and serve as a guest analyst on selected pre/postgame shows during Utah Hockey Club live broadcasts.
New Capabilities and Content
This season, SEG Media has introduced enhanced capabilities across its three DTC services. A DVR function during live game coverage and a new search capability make it easy to find desired content, from game replays to popular VOD content.
Also new this season, annual and monthly subscribers to SEG+, UtahHC+, and Jazz+ will be the first to access crossover content highlighting players from the Jazz and Utah Hockey Club to showcase the best of Utah. The programming will be available via the streaming services 48 hours before it is released on other team-owned channels.
Streaming and Broadcast Territory
All 3.3 million-plus Utahns can access and subscribe to all SEG Media subscription streaming services. UtahHC+ is available in an expansive territory: Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Wyoming, and parts of Nevada. Jazz+ is available to all fans living within the Jazz broadcast footprint: the state of Utah and areas of Idaho and Wyoming. SEG+ is available where Utah Jazz and Utah Hockey Club broadcast regions overlap.
Fans in the teams’ broadcast market will also be able to watch every game — except exclusive nationally televised games — for free on over-the-air TV stations. Jazz games will be broadcast on Sinclair-owned KJZZ-TV Salt Lake City, “The Home of the Utah Jazz.” Utah Hockey Club games will be broadcast on E.W. Scripps-owned KUPX-TV Provo, the “Official TV home of Utah Hockey Club.”

SEG+ is available only as an annual subscription, priced at $174.99.
