On FOX, last night’s conclusion to the historic matchup delivered an average audience of 18,152,000 viewers and peaked at 21,268,000 from 11:15-11:30 PM ET, delivering the most-watched Game 5 of the World Series since 2017 (LAD-HOU: 18,959,000). The Dodgers’ second World Series clinch in four years was up +58% over last year’s World Series Game 5 (TEX-AZ: 11,483,000).

Across all networks*, the 120th World Series dominated the television landscape with an average of 15,808,000 viewers, the best combined figure for the Fall Classic since 2017.

Through five games on FOX alone, the World Series averaged 15,204,000 viewers, up +67% over last year’s five-game average (TEX-AZ: 9,108,000), delivering the best five-game average of the World Series since 2017 (LAD-HOU: 16,416,000).

The complete 2024 MLB Postseason on FOX and FS1 averaged 7,485,000 viewers, up +42% over last year’s average (5,265,000) and FOX Sports’ best Postseason through Game 5 of the World Series since 2017.

The 2024 World Series averaged 504,000 viewers on FOX Deportes*, doubling last year’s average (TEX-AZ: 181,000) and making it the most-watched in Spanish language television history.

Nearly 30 Million Average Viewers in U.S. & Japan for First Two World Series Games
The first two games of the 2024 World Series presented by Capital One drew a combined 29.7 million average viewers in the U.S. and Japan.  Game Two averaged 15.9 million viewers in Japan, the most-watched MLB Postseason game ever in the country.  Game One average viewership was 14.4 million, making it the second most-watched Postseason game ever in Japan.  Through the first two games, the Fall Classic has an average viewership of 15.15 million in Japan.

Game Two ranks second for the most-watched MLB game ever in Japan behind only the first game of the 2024 season for the Dodgers in Seoul, South Korea, which drew 18.7 million average viewers and aired live in primetime.  World Series games air live at 9 a.m. in Japan. The 2024 World Series is being distributed in Japan through Fuji TV, NHK BS, and J Sports.

Younger Audiences in U.S. and Social Media

Back in the U.S., younger audiences are leading the significant viewership gains for this year’s World Series.  The first two games of the World Series registered a +93%increase in viewership within the 18-34 year-old audience in the U.S.  Compared to last year’s Fall Classic, the 18-34 year-old group is drawing the largest increase of any of the demos.

In addition, MLB’s social media platforms have registered the most views and engagements in World Series history.  Through two games of the Fall Classic, MLB’s social channels registered more than 345 million views (+229% vs. 2023) and 25 million engagements (+225% vs. 2023).

ESPN’s presentation of the 2024 WNBA season concludes with record-breaking viewership. This season’s broadcasts delivered some of the highest ratings in WNBA history, solidifying the league’s continued momentum across ESPN platforms.

As the exclusive home of the WNBA postseason, ESPN platforms televised 22 postseason games with the New York Liberty securing the franchise’s first WNBA championship, defeating the Minnesota Lynx in an overtime thriller in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals presented by YouTube TV on Sunday, October 20. The 2024 postseason averaged 1.1 million viewers – up 139 percent over 2023’s postseason – making it the most-viewed WNBA postseason in 25 years.

  • WNBA Finals Presented by YouTube TV concluded as the most-watched Finals in 25 years, averaging 1.6 million viewers, up 115 percent over 2023:
    • Each telecast in the five-game series averaged more than 1 million viewers.
    • Games 3, 4, and 5 each became the most-viewed WNBA Finals games ever on cable.
  • The 2024 WNBA Finals presented by YouTube TV marked the league’s eighth Finals to reach a fifth-and-deciding game and the first such series to average at least 1 million viewers. Cowboys-49ers Averages Nearly 24 Million Viewers on NBC and Peacock in Most-Watched Week 8 Sunday Night Football Game Ever

The San Francisco 49ers’ 30-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys last night ranked as NBC Sunday Night Football’s most watched Week 8 game on record, averaging 23.9 million viewers across NBC, Peacock, NBC Sports Digital platforms and NFL Digital platforms, based on live plus same day custom fast nationals from Nielsen and digital data from Adobe Analytics.
NBC Sports’ audience peaked at 26.4 million viewers in the second quarter (9:15-9:30 p.m. ET).
Cowboys-49ers is SNF’s most-watched Week 8 game ever and topped viewership for last year’s Week 8 game by 43% (16.7 million for Bears-Chargers).
NBC Sunday Night Football is averaging 22.4 million viewers across all platforms – the series’ best average audience through Week 8 since 2015.

Nielsen’s Big Data + Panel Measurement Posts 13.76M for Vikings-Rams on Prime

October 24th Vikings-Rams thriller on Prime Video attracted 13.76 million viewers, registering a double-digit increase over last year’s comparable game, as well as the streamer’s sixth TNF event of the season to draw more than 12 million viewers. During the sports calendar’s most crowded and competitive stretch of the year, TNF on Prime has posted year-over-year viewership gains across four of the last five weeks.

As the 2024 season’s half-way mark approaches, TNF on Prime continues to pace ahead of last year’s record viewership and is now averaging 13.22 million viewers, which is +11% above the 2023 full-season average of 11.86M, and +38% over 2022’s average of 9.58M.

According to Nielsen, TNF on Prime Video averaged 13.76 million viewers on Thursday night, which is up +11% from last year’s presentation of Buccaneers vs. Bills (11.36M, 10/26/23).

Last night’s game posted a +26% increase over the comparable game from 2022 (10.00M for Ravens-Buccaneers, 10/27/22). Vikings-Rams on Prime Video peaked at 13.90M viewers (9:15 – 9:30PM ET).

Season to date, TNF is averaging 13.22 million viewers, an increase of +11% over TNF on Prime’s 2023 season average (11.86M), and +38% above the 2022 TNF season average (9.58M). As it has every week this season, TNF won the night among total viewers across all broadcast and cable programming (+94% over the No. 2 program).

Among viewers in the hard-to-reach P18-34 demographic, TNF on Prime averaged 2.40M, and stands as the most-watched program of the week beginning Monday, October 21.

Season to date, TNF is averaging 2.81M within the P18-34 demographic, an increase of +17% over last year’s full-season average (2.40M). Within P18-34, TNF on Prime is tracking +33% above its 2022 season average (2.11M).

Among viewers in the P18-49 demographic, TNF on Prime averaged 5.71M, and stands as the most-watched program of the week beginning Monday,
October 21.

Season to date, TNF is averaging 6.33M within the P18-49 demographic, an increase of +15% over last year’s full-season average (5.49M). Within P18-49, TNF on Prime is tracking +35% above its 2022 season average (4.70M).

Season to date, TNF on Prime’s median age is 47.7, which is more than seven years younger than audiences watching the NFL on linear networks

Formula 1 on ESPN Viewership Notes after Mexico City Grand Prix

ABC’s live telecast of the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday, October 27, attracted an average audience of 1.4 million viewers for the race-only portion of the telecast (4-5:45 p.m. ET), with a peak of 1.6 million.

The 2024 audience was the second-highest viewership for the race on record and nearly identical (down 3 percent) to last year’s record audience.

Through 20 of 24 races, the 2024 F1 season is averaging 1.12 million viewers per race across ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC, up over the 2023 F1 full season average (1.1M).

The next race is the Formula 1 Sau Paolo Grand Prix on Sunday, Nov. 3. The race will air on ESPN2 and stream on ESPN+ in the United States – coverage starts at 10:30 a.m. ET with Grand Prix Sunday with the race starting at noon.

The Brazil race coverage also will include the return of the “F1 Kids” alternate telecast on ESPNU and two alternate streams on ESPN+ (onboard cameras and track position views).

Some key points from the 2024 season so far:

  • Five races this year have set event viewership records (Miami, Monaco, Canada, British and most recently, Italian).
  • The Miami Grand Prix in early May, airing on ABC, set the all-time U.S. television F1 record for a live telecast with 3.1 million average viewers.
  • During one point in the season, five consecutive races had year-over-year viewership gains: Japan, Miami, Monaco, Canada and Spain. (China and Imola were not run in 2023).
