Boston College Revamps Game-Day Experience at Alumni Stadium with Daktronics LED Displays

Daktronics has partnered with Boston College to design, manufacture and install 12 LED displays at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

Each end zone features a new video display with 1.5 million pixels and the seating fascia features roughly 1,500 linear feet of LED technology. Altogether, 7.9 million pixels and 7,500+ square feet of LED displays were installed ahead of the 2024 football season.

“We undertook a comprehensive process to update our existing Daktronics LED video and ribbon displays that have served our needs since their installation in 2014,” says Boston College Associate Athletics Director of Facilities and Operations Matthew Conway. “This new Daktronics system brings our university an added sense of pride on game day while also delivering our fans the amazing game-day experience they expect and deserve at Alumni Stadium.”

End Zone Video Display Details

Each end zone features a new LED video display featuring 8-millimeter pixel spacing to bring crisp, clear imagery to fans throughout Alumni Stadium. Each display measures more than 19 feet high by 54 feet wide to bring viewers all the engaging, eye-catching visuals they expect at high-profile events.

Each display is capable of variable content zoning allowing each to show one large image or to be divided into multiple zones of digital content. This includes any combination of live video, instant replays, statistics and game information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

“Daktronics is proud and pleased to continue our long relationship with Boston College Athletics,” says Peter Dunkle, Daktronics sales representative. “With the new LED display system in Alumni Stadium, Boston College will have a set of beautiful video displays. During this project we laid the groundwork for a campus-wide Show Control system enabling the event production staff to send and receive data from each venue back to a central control location. The benefits will include allowing the event production staff in a central location to load creative content to every venue from a single source and to push content locally to every venue in real-time.”

Additional Display Details

Lining the seating fascia, 10 LED ribbon displays were installed to provide additional information, graphics and sponsorship opportunities throughout events. Each features 10-millimeter pixel spacing and measures roughly 3.5 feet high. Four measure 100 feet wide, four measure 107 feet wide, one measures 180 feet wide and one measures 359 feet wide.

Four delay of game clocks and four custom game time clocks complete the installation and provide the venue with everything they need to host high-level sporting events.

Included with the equipment installation, Daktronics Creative Services will produce and deliver a digital content package to help bring the displays to life for Boston College.

Daktronics included a complete Show Control solution with this installation.
