MLS Taps Longtime Turner PR Exec Sal Petruzzi as VP of Corporate Comms

MLS and Soccer United Marketing have hired longtime media industry PR exec and former Turner comms lead Sal Petruzzi as VP/Corporate Communications, according to SBJ. Petruzzi will begin Dec. 10, just after the MLS season comes to a close.

Petruzzi most recently worked as a strategic advisor for Horizon Sports & Experiences, a sports marketing agency launched by co-CEOs David Levy and Chris Weil in 2022. He p

Petruzzi spent 16 years at Turner during Levy’s time in charge at the company. He served as lead media, communications and brand strategist for Turner’s domestic portfolio of brands and businesses. He also aligned communications strategy and plans with overall company objectives for Turner’s largest portfolio of brands.

In 2020, Petruzzi was recruited to start up FOX Corp.’s ad sales portfolio communications team and remained at FOX through 2023. In this capacity, he supported overall revenue generation and served as the company’s lead communications executive and spokesperson for the advertising sales division, a multi-billion-dollar business spanning the company’s portfolio of brands and businesses.

Petruzzi started his career at DKC and worked at A&E prior to his long run with Turner.

SBJ reports that Petruzzi will report to MLS EVP/Communications Dan Courtemanche and oversee corporate communications strategy for partnership marketing, brand alliances, emerging ventures, consumer products, social/digital media and community engagement.
