SMPTE Elects Richard Welsh as President

Richard Welsh, SVP, innovation, Deluxe, has been elected president of SMPTE, a position he is expected to serve in until Dec. 31, 2026. He has been on the SMPTE board for more than 10 years, most recently serving a two-year term as EVP. He has also served as SMPTE VP, education, and as governor for EMEA, Central/South America. Welsh is also on the board of IBC and is chair/co-founder of volumetric-asset–management company Volustor.

Welsh began his career at Dolby Laboratories as a film sound consultant, working his way up to director of digital cinema services. He subsequently became head of operations of Technicolor’s digital-cinema, localization, and sound-services department. More recently, he became an associate lecturer at Southampton Solent University and co-founded Sundog Media Toolkit Ltd.
