Canon Debuts ‘Shoot Like a Pro’ Mentorship Program During NWSL Championship

At the 2025 NWSL Championship on Saturday in San Jose, new NWSL partner Canon debuted a new activation right on the field: Shoot Like a Pro.

Ahead of the big match, Canon pre-selected two San Jose State University photography students, Janai Jessee and Caitlyn Wyss, to shoot the Championship match from the sidelines exactly like the pros, working with the same Canon gear used by the official league photographers. This mentorship program is in service of empowering the next generation of women’s sports photographers who will capture world-changing images.

Here’s what happened: Caitlyn and Janai were mentored on the sidelines by veteran sports photographer and Canon Explorer of Light Terrell Lloyd, who’s the official photographer for the San Francisco 49ers. Throughout the Championship, Lloyd coached Jessee and Wyss through live-game workflow, lens choices, and getting “the shot” under pressure.
