The 2017 IBC Show is in the books and there is plenty of praise to go around. Here is a roundup of some the big award winners from the show, including Artel Video Systems, Evertz, Lawo, Net Insight, Prime Focus, Ross Video, Telos Alliance, and more.

Artel Receives IABM Design & Innovation Award for SMART Media Delivery Platform
Artel Video Systems received the IABM Design & Innovation Award in the Content and Communication Infrastructure category for the company’s SMART Media Delivery Platform. The SMART Media Delivery Platform is a four-channel auto-sense SD-SDI/HD-SDI/3G-over-IP multifunction gateway with an integrated nonblocking Layer 2/3 switch. The SMART Platform has been designed to attach seamlessly to the IP network without the need for external network elements. Functionality of the platform may be added or upgraded via software download. The flexibility in function capabilities, along with greater port density, drastically reduces power consumption, reduces size and cost, and allows for a seamless transition as the end user’s network evolves.

“We are honored to have been chosen a winner by the IABM’s panel of industry experts,” said Mike Rizzo, President and CEO at Artel. “It is a tremendous achievement and further confirms that our innovation and design behind the SMART platform aligns with industry requirements and will greatly benefit end users as they continue to implement IP-centric workflows.”

Evertz Public Cloud Playout Solution Wins IABM Design and Innovation Award
Evertz received a IABM Design and Innovation award at the 2017 IBC Show in Amsterdam. This award recognizes the scale and scope of the Project surrounding Evertz’ transformational migration of traditional playout services to a public cloud environment. This migration has involved numerous ground breaking products, technologies and integrations that have never before been achieved and are critical to both public and private cloud playout applications. Evertz’ innovative and proven solution utilizes Mediator-X, OvertureRT LIVE, and Render-X as a fully integrated linear playout and non-linear content distribution platform in public cloud, private cloud, and hybrid architectures giving media companies the agility and flexibility to dynamically scale their operations. The system’s ability to rapidly spin-up/down resource and adopt innovative redundancy and resilience models reduces time to market, increases reliability, optimizes costs and enables earlier revenue recognition from new product launches.

“We have developed and deployed at scale an innovative cloud-based playout solution in close partnership with our customers who can now leverage the flexibility and scalability of a truly virtualized playout solution,” said Dan Turow, Vice President, File Based Solutions. “We are honored to have been awarded the Design and Innovation award from the IABM and we acknowledge their significant contributions to our industry.”

Lawo mc²96 Grand Production Console winner of IABM Award for Audio
The winner of IABM’s sought-after Design & Innovation Award in the category ‘Audio’ was the mc²96 Grand Production Console of Lawo. The new Lawo flagship audio mixing console, launched at this year’s NAB Show in Las Vegas, has been specifically designed to provide optimal performance in video production environments through native support for all relevant IP standards – SMPTE 2110, AES67, RAVENNA and DANTE.

The jury’s statement about the Lawo mc²96 console: “At last, a console that takes account of the fact that audio mixing for television requires the ability to see as well as hear an incoming source before taking the audio to air. A very exciting product that looks to be very intuitive to use.”

Proudly accepted was this award on the night by Lawo’s Christian Struck, Senior Product Manager Audio Production, and Andreas Hilmer, Director Marketing & Communication, expressing their gratitude to the jury and their views on the broadcast industry in transition: “mc²96 – Winner of the IABM Design & Innovation Award 2017! Thanks a lot to the judges for not only recognizing our audio heritage, but also honoring the pioneering integration of video. This award is going beyond audio – it’s recognizing our industry’s migration to unified infrastructures and new workflows enabled by the utilization of IP technology.”

Net Insight Wins IBC 2017 Best of Show Award for STCC Live App
Net Insight’s STCC Live App, built upon Sye, a True Live OTT streaming solution, was awarded the IBC 2017 Best of Show Award, presented by NewBay’s TV Tech Global. The STCC Live app, used in conjunction with the STCC (Scandinavian Touring Car Championship) races, leveraged Net Insight’s Sye technology to deliver ultra-low latency synchronized video feeds to OTT devices. The STCC Live app offered viewers a complimentary, unique, and immersive experience, including real-time access to driver cams, driver information, the production feed and guest speakers. All powered by the Sye streaming solution.   Because of the synchronization capabilities of Sye, second screen engagement applications have finally come of age. The Sye solution will facilitate the next generation of truly engaging companion apps such as STCC Live.  For the first time, the STCC audience had the ability to follow the race in real-time on their iOS devices, becoming the producers of their own live experience.

“Winning the Best of Show award for the STCC Live app is further proof of how we are shaping the future of live OTT and how the next generation live events will be consumed and monetized,” says Per Lindgren, senior vice president of Live OTT at Net Insight. “Syncing the first and second screen for live events is the missing link when it comes to creating shared, social live experiences.”

Prime Focus Technologies (PFT) was awarded NewBay Media’s TV Tech Global Magazine IBC 2017 ‘Best of Show’ for its industry-first Interoperable Master Format (IMF) Media Player. The player is part of PFT’s flagship CLEAR Media ERP Suite and is positioned to help Media and Entertainment (M&E) companies drive enhanced efficiencies by automating and simplifying the distribution of IMF packages. It also plays a key role in lowering Total Cost of Operations (TCOP) for M&E enterprises by reducing the cost of storage, transfers, and transcoding. CLEAR’s IMF Player powers users with the ability to watch and review IMF Composition Playlists (CPL) over secured streaming proxies. HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) manifests for these compositions are generated using proxies of the underlying images, thus ensuring a smooth playback experience.

“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition of technology excellence from NewBay Media,” said Ramki Sankaranarayanan, Founder & CEO, Prime Focus Technologies. “CLEAR’s IMF Media Player is a major milestone in our innovation driven product roadmap towards IMF readiness, and this award further validates the valuable possibilities it offers on the back of automation.”
