NAB 2018: Evertz To Launch Smart Media Aggregation Platform

Evertz will launch the SCORPION Smart Media Aggregation Platform at NAB 2018.

Evertz features a portfolio of transport solutions with products for dark fiber links, private IP networks and unmanaged public internet connections. SCORPION is a scalable, high-density media aggregation and transport platform for dark fiber and managed IP networks. The SCORPION Smart Media Aggregation platform is offered in three unique form factors that make SCORPION the ideal transport solution for everything from large-scale multi-channel, to small control room single channel standalone applications.

With the growth of managed IP networks for transport applications, broadcasters now need to support both dark fiber and managed IP networks on the transport network side, and a growing multitude of IP, digital and analog signals on the media aggregation side. Support for all of these technologies would require racks of standalone processing, conversion and transport equipment which is costly, difficult to maintain, and difficult to operate. SCORPION solves this problem with its media aggregation capabilities.

A defining feature of the SCORPION platform is the broad selection of user-selectable interface mini-modules that can be utilized to create a highly-customized transport platform for all applications. The mini-module interfaces support all of the common signal interfaces found in broadcast facilities including 12G/3G/HD SDI, ASI, HDMI and analog video. In addition AES and MADI audio, intercom, Ethernet and serial data are supported.

With over 100 global deployments since 2014, Evertz is leading the industry transition to IP with its SDVN (Software Defined Video Networking) IP-based solutions. SCORPION is an integral component of this transition and the SCORPION platform features support for the latest industry IP standards including SMPTE ST 2110 and ST 2022-6. The added flexibility gained with the support of the industry’s latest IP standards makes SCORPION the ideal transport solution for both IP and legacy dark-fiber transport applications.

The SCORPION-18 features a 1 rack unit form factor and is ideal for large-scale transport applications. It supports up to 18 mini-modules, and 18 SFP slots, plus two QSFP+ trunk interfaces for IP transport over 1G/10G/25G/40G and 100G networks.

The SCORPION-4 offers all the IP encapsulation and de-encapsulation power of the SCORPION-18, but does it in a compact, standalone, and noise free form factor, making it ideal for low noise environments including studios and control rooms.

The SCORPION-2 leverages the best features of the SCORPION platform, and with its diverse and flexible I/O options and small form factor is an ideal standalone solution for signal transport applications where low noise and small size is a priority.

“With the industry transition to IP well underway, the ability to offer transport solutions that support both IP and dark fiber links is a critical requirement of content creators, and broadcasters,” says Ning Neal Dong, product manager of transport pProducts, Evertz. “The SCORPION platform, with its flexible form factor options and comprehensive selection of mini-modules, addresses the transport requirements of our customers whether they are operating in an IP, dark fiber, baseband, or hybrid environment.”
