NAB 2019: VITEC Features Zero-Delay Contribution Solutions

VITEC (Booth SL6005), leader in advanced video-encoding and streaming solutions, is demonstrating its broad portfolio of IPTV and contribution solutions for enterprise, broadcast, and entertainment applications. The company has announced that its compact, professional-grade MGW Ace IP decoder is now available as an openGear card. Also on exhibit is the new MGES-7000 4K/UHD/HD HEVC and H.264 eight-input IPTV encoding blade; setting a new benchmark in processing density, it offers real-time hardware encoding of four 4Kp60 or eight 3G/HD/SD input ports for live sources of SDI, HDMI, or IP (SMPTE ST 2110) video with advanced features, such as secondary channel, integrated resolution, and frame-rate scaling, AES 256/128-bit encryption, and low latency mode. The booth will also offer a live demo of the EZ TV IPTV and digital-signage solution, which is ideal for corporate, government, and sports-venue IPTV and signage applications where video streams are a valuable part of the user experience.

MGW Ace IP Decoder
The openGear modular and open-architecture platform from Ross Video makes for easy integration within production studios and broadcast facilities. The MGW Ace Decoder OG broadcast-quality, dense IP decoder supports the latest bandwidth-efficient HEVC/H.265 and legacy H.264/AVC compression standards. The new form factor will be showcased as part of its zero-delay HEVC contribution solution, which includes the MGW Ace Encoder, MGW Ace Decoder, MGW Diamond, and VITEC Playout Server.

“Following our recent acquisition of T-21 Technologies coupled with our commitment to the broadcast market, this new offering is a natural expansion within our HEVC contribution solution,” says Richard Bernard, Senior Product Manager, VITEC. “Now customers can choose the form factor to suit their application, whether that’s our portable and robust hardware-based MGW Ace Decoder perfectly suited for field use, or the openGear card for fixed/multichannel installation within broadcast facilities. Both models provide best-in-class, ultra-low-latency video quality over rich and industry-standard audio and video connectivity.”

“It is great to see this new product from our newest openGear partner, VITEC, which addresses a key application in compression and decompression,” said Nestor Amaya, VP, signal processing gear, Ross Video. “This is further proof that customers can rely on openGear as the industry platform of choice, with the best-in-class modules from the widest array of manufacturers, under our unified DashBoard control system. We congratulate VITEC on this new and innovative openGear product.”

Whether it’s used to cover an event or in sensitive applications, MGW Ace Decoder OG is designed to provide the best possible viewing experience and never miss a single frame. The decoder provides 4:2:2 10-bit HEVC and H.264 decoding from IP or DVB-ASI as well as genlock reference support. It is 4K-ready with dual 12G-SDI outputs. To support contribution or any multichannel applications, where density and reliability matter, the 2-RU openGear chassis can host up to 10 decoders and offers redundant power supply. The built-in time-sync function ensures flawlessly synchronized playback of multiple independent streams across several MGW Ace Decoder OG cards. For remote production, when paired with the MGW Ace Encoder, the pair delivers zero-latency IP contribution with 16-millisecond glass-to-glass latency in HEVC 4:2:2 10-bit, powered by the VITEC HEVC GEN2+ codec.

MGES-7000 Encoder
“The streaming landscape has become incredibly diverse, which demands powerful, high-input solutions with the agility to support multiple channels of both HEVC and H.264 with broadcast quality and ultra-low latency across any network infrastructure,” said David Ben-Atar, product manager, streaming and delivery products, VITEC. “The MGES-7000 is the first encoding solution with the input availability to fully support these applications.”

Featuring the highest density available on the market, the MGES-7000 4K/UHD/HD HEVC and H.264 IPTV encoding blade is the industry’s premier encoder for input flexibility. With the increased density of blade-server configurations, it is an ideal multichannel blade encoder for a variety of applications — including in-house broadcast; real-time high-quality sport events; low-delay encrypted FMV distribution — and any installation with high-quality, low-latency IPTV distribution demands or that require support for legacy H.264 players as well as new, cutting-edge 4K HEVC end-points. In addition, it is a future-proof encoder solution that meets the current IPTV demands of H.264 and HD encoding while its advanced capabilities of HEVC, 4K\UHD, and HDR allows for technological growth and supports market trends.

Using hardware-based encoding chips supporting 4:2:2/4:2:0 10-bit and 8-bit H.264 and HEVC codecs, it can support any application demand while providing benefits such as support for secondary video streams up to 1080p60 for each input. All streams can be managed with an easily configured web UI. When coupled with VITEC’s Media Gateway MGW family of carrier-grade IPTV platforms, IPTV providers can serve up to 208 IPTV streams from the MGW 5100 (10RU), up to 96 IPTV streams from the MGW 1100 (4RU), and up to 16 IPTV streams from the MGW 1000 (1RU). VITEC’s Smoothing algorithm guarantees low jitter for flawless IP over any LAN or WAN network. In addition, it is fully supported by the VITEC Cluster Manager (CM) System, which provides global system monitoring and control, as well as automated N+K redundancy to ensure high availability operation for even the most critical use cases.
