Amazon Web Services Deploys AWS Elemental Link for Real-Time Video Transport

Despite the current situation around the globe, Amazon Web Services is continuing to create innovations for the sports video production industry. Most recently, the company is releasing the new Remote-Controlled AWS Elemental Link Device for Real-Time Video Transport.

AWS Elemental Link is a compact, lightweight device, which makes it easy and cost-effective to transport live video in real-time from on-premises cameras and other production equipment to the cloud for processing and delivery to televisions and connected devices. Customers are able to power up AWS Elemental Link to automatically access their video and securely process their video with AWS Elemental MediaLive for delivery to viewers across a range of supported device types in minutes.

AWS Elemental Link supports multiple applications in live video environments, such as broadcast studios, news facilities, sports and entertainment event venues, mobile production trucks, houses of worship, educational institutions and corporate and government video setups.

AWS Elemental Media Live encodes the live video into different streams (resolutions and bitrates) and users can then opt to use AWS Elemental MediaPackage to format the streams for playback on a range of devices; AWS Elemental MediaStore as a media-optimized storage and origination service; and Amazon CloudFront to distribute the live streams to devices for playback.

At the cost of $995, AWS Elemental Link streamlines the process from setup to configuration and operation. Users simply power up the device, connect it to an HD-SDI or HDMI input source and their IP network, access their video on the AWS Console for processing with AWS Elemental MediaLive and within minutes stream content to viewers without concern about available bandwidth.

Compared with other approaches, Link reduces the configuration, calibration, and testing resources typically required to deliver a high quality picture. It automatically matches the audio configuration of the source and carries essential metadata, such as the captions and timecode, through the stream.
