SVG SportsTech On Demand: JVC Professional Video's Edgar Shane on Remote Productions Over IP With the ConnectedCAM Series

In an effort to keep the broadcast-technology community informed this spring, throughout April, SVG is hosting a series of SportsTech On Demand video interviews with executives from the industry’s top technology vendors discussing their latest product releases and company news. Our Ken Kerschbaumer sat down with Edgar Shane, general manager, engineering, JVC Professional Video, about the company’s efforts.

Shane discusses JVC’s ConnectedCAM series of camcorders and the role they are playing in  allowing for a remote production to be done over the Internet (IP). Recently, the company introduced 1″ CMOS handheld and 2/3″ 3xCMOS shoulder/studio camcorders including the GY-HC500SPC camera with live sports score overlay. Each camera is equipped with the streaming encoder to send video over the Internet and decoder to receive Return Video and IFB over the same connection. The highest contribution-quality transport over the Internet utilizing H.264 and HEVC codecs with robust SRT and Zixi QoS does not require any additional encoders, only cameras and Internet connection on location. In addition, The GY-HC500SPC adds Live Score CG video overlay with a real-time update over IP from the SportzCast ScoreHUB connected to the venue scoreboard.
