France's RMC Selects Digigram for Audio Commentary During the Tokyo Olympics

Digigram has supplied French-based radio broadcaster RMC, a member of the ALTICE Group, with its ONE IP solution to broadcast audio sports commentaries during the summer Tokyo Games.

As per its specifications, RMC has carried out an extensive search for the perfect solution that would combine reliability and efficiency, user-friendly features, agility, and powerful capacities while being space saving. Digigram ONE IP ticks all the boxes.

RMC Radio broadcasted live commentaries and recorded interviews from the Tokyo IBC facility and has designed a comprehensive ad-hoc solution, leveraging the full capacity of Digigram ONE IP solutions to meet its challenges.

The solution includes:

  • IQOYA SERV/LINK located in Paris and Tokyo and operating 28 codec instances each
  • Digigram’s flagship portable codec IQOYA TALK coupled to IQOYA GUEST service brings a flexible and lightweight addition to the infrastructure, enabling 10 onsite journalists to freely deploy and live operate over the various sites of the venues. IQOYA TALK’s signature feature is the capacity to retrieve each reporter’s preferred configurations in an eye blink, enabling them to quickly focus on recording athletes’ interviews prior to the competitions, but also live report the opening ceremony on July 23rd
  • The IQOYA CONNECT service operates the overall system management, including the monitoring and control over the entire fleet. IQOYA CONNECT features secure communications, which is key to ensuring a smooth and trouble free streams distribution between Paris and Tokyo.

Onsite premix: an innovative solution
RMC has built this specific infrastructure to meet this particular year’s challenges. An unusual pattern for the broadcaster who will therefore remotely mix the captured audio streams onsite prior to broadcasting them to Paris.

“This is a new scheme for us, and as a longtime solutions provider for RMC, we trust Digigram for its reliable solutions,” says Dimitri Grossi, RMC’s Head of External Media Production. “I am confident the ONE IP Solution will support a seamless processing and editing of live and recorded audio feeds, ready for delivery to the RMC headquarters in Paris.”

Easy interface configuration
The user-friendly network configuration provides an additional benefit for the RMC tech crew: IQOYA CONNECT’s interface features an auto-detect function to easily configure the programs in a timely fashion.

“The easy network configuration via IQOYA CONNECT is one of the solution’s main assets,” declares Edouard Winckel, Sales Account Manager at Digigram. “This added value will help RMC teams in saving time while setting up their system.”

Compact design and powerful capacities
The IQOYA SERV/LINK’s design features a 1U rack hosting up to 64 stereo codecs, flexible to accommodate any needs thanks to its MADI, DANTE and AES67 versions, making it a powerful, yet compact solution for RMC to deliver pristine and sheer sound to its audience worldwide.

“As we addressed multiple issues, our requirements were sharp and we are delighted to benefit from Digigram’s rock-solid solutions to seamlessly broadcast the Tokyo Games,” concludes Grossi.
