SVG Summit Showcase Preview: A Roundup of Exhibitor Offerings, Part 4
The 2013 SVG Summit is fast approaching and will host more exhibitors on the Technology Showcase floor than ever before. In the weeks leading up to the Summit, SVG is highlighting the new products and latest technologies that will be on display at the New York Hilton Dec. 16 and 17.
Aerial Video Systems
At the SVG Summit, AVS will demonstrate its compact Steadicam system at Grass Valley’s table. The system consists of Grass Valley’s new LDX compact camera and the Link L1700 transmitter, both of which debuted at IBC2013. Capable of 1080p, the system was selected for ESPN’s Monday Night Football coverage this season. Representatives from Aerial Video Systems will be on hand at the Summit, and Grass Valley representatives at the booth will be well-versed on the workflow.
Apantac
Apantac, provider of cost-effective multiviewers, video walls, extenders, and signal-processing solutions, will show its extender/receiver set for the EVS XT3 video-production server, which debuted at IBC2013. The new MT HOOD EVS extender/receiver set (models EVS-1-E and EVS-1-R) is a convenient and cost-effective method to extend control of the EVS XT3 server.
Using the Apantac EVS-1-E/R extender/receiver set with a single CAT 5e/6 cable, the operator and the EVS XT or XS server can be up to 200 meters apart. A VGA console, PS2 keyboard, and up to two RS-422 controllers are all supported via the single CAT 5e/6x cable, and a USB port is reserved for future interface support. With the use of an RJ45 patch panel, the CAT 5e/6 cable can be easily patched to freely assign the operator positions to the EVS XT3 production servers.
Bannister Lake
Bannister Lake’s inaugural SVG Summit Technology Showcase will feature brand-new product offerings. The company’s sports-centric content-management solution, BL Sports Ticker, launched last month following a successful national deployment at Canada’s live-event sports specialty channel Sportsnet. A single Sports Ticker implementation can power an unlimited number of channels with automation efficiencies that free up human resources to engage fans on a broader level.
Fan engagement does not end at scores and statistics. In-venue social-media integration draws sports fans further into the game. Bannister Lake will demonstrate straightforward Twitter, Facebook, and RSS-feed social-media–stream integration with BL TweetOut. Instagram support is coming in early 2014.
An affordable, lightweight, portable HD Score Bug solution will also make its public debut on the Technology Showcase floor next week. BL Score Bug GO features full HD-SDI key and fill, simultaneous SD and HDTV output, and all of the real-time scoring and game-status display features and functionality available in BL Score Bugs today, including sport customization and scoreboard-controller support for Whiteway, Daktronics, OES, and radar-gun interfaces.

Brightcove, a global provider of cloud services for video, offers a family of products that revolutionize the way organizations deliver video experiences. Brightcove will be on-site at the SVG Summit, highlighting its Zencoder service, a cloud-based media processing service that is the performance leader in cloud transcoding and the fastest and most widely used solution on the market, and Video Cloud, the market-leading online video platform.
Because its technology easily integrates with virtually any workflow, digital media companies rely upon Brightcove platform solutions to reduce the complexity of multi-screen video distribution and to generate more revenue from their video assets.
Ericsson
Ericsson will demonstrate real-time “true” 4K UHDTV video contribution at p60, 4:2:2, 10-bit resolution. Ericsson’s 4K Ultra High Definition Contribution solution provides a clear route for broadcasters to overcome the first and most important hurdle – acquisition of all-important content. Delivering the highest possible video quality to cover major events such as live sports, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup and Winter Olympics at full 4K resolution, the capability is available as part of the company’s existing encoder and decoder platform as part of its Content Acquisition and Content Exchange Solutions – allowing broadcasters to respond quickly to this rapidly changing and dynamic market.
Joseph Fiber Solutions
Joseph Fiber Solutions will highlight its NET-Caddie. Through collaborations with Bluebell Opticom and the BBC R&D team, this award-winning fiber solution features Stagebox Technology, the camera-over-IP interface. The DFT-8, ideal for multi-OB setups, is a fiber-based interconnect solution comprising modular yet rugged components that can be customized to meet specific signal-transport demands. Through detailed app notes, the single-fiber Caddie philosophy will be explained to redefine how the company sets up and takes down its remote broadcasts.
Lawo
Lawo plans to highlight the mc²56 MKII console and NOVA73 HD router, recently awarded an Emmy Engineering Plaque; the V__pro8 video processor with eight SDI and two MADI streams, frame synchronizers, and embedders with channel shuffling all in a 1RU chassis; the V__link4 with a fully bi-directional, four-channel video-over-IP interface, and all the processing tools usually needed when contributing video and audio to a broadcast production; and the new Lawo Commentary System. All products reflect the company’s on-going support for increased adoption of new IP-centric technologies, standards, and methodologies, including AES67 and RAVENNA.
Linear Acoustic
Linear Acoustic will be showing Upmax V4, LAMBDA, LQ1, and the AERO.100. Drawing on the success of its predecessors in the UPMAX line, this compact, lightweight, and rugged Upmax V4 produces stunning 5.1-channel audio from two-channel sources and is suited for OB trucks and postproduction facilities.
Offering AES and auto-sensing HD/SD-SDI I/O, the UPMAX v4 combines the UPMAX upmixing/downmixing algorithm with AutoMAX auto-detection for seamless transitions between stereo and native surround input sources and produces an upmix that is completely downmix-compatible.
The UPMAX v4 comes standard with a built-in ITU loudness meter, dual redundant power supplies, internal relay bypass, SNMP monitoring, and eight channels of analog outputs for monitoring purposes. A GPI I/O remote control is optional.
Orad
Orad’s HDVG 2GO is a native 64-bit system offering significant processing and rendering capabilities in a 2RU mobile chassis. Suitable for on-location production and OB vans, it weighs less than 5 kg (29.5 cm wide x 28.5 cm deep) and can be easily and inexpensively transported by hand. HDVG 2GO supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p as well as SD formats and can provide up to four video outputs. It can introduce four live video feeds as well as video clips into the graphic scene with a minimal constant two frames delay. Additionally, it is equipped with an embedded downstream keyer.
The HDVG 2GO can be used with Engine Framework, Orad’s software-development environment. Users can create customizable controls to manipulate interactive scenes, enhance the use of big database sources, and operate rich-media events such as elections, big sports events, and more. The HDVG 2Go can also be controlled by Orad’s Maestro and 3DPlay graphic-control applications.
PROMISE Technology
PROMISE Technology will be showcasing its VTrak A-Class Shared SAN Filesystem and the new Pegasus2, the world’s fastest Thunderbolt 2 hardware RAID storage solutions. The VTrak A-Class is an all-in-one SAN that requires no additional server hardware. It can scale out and scale up to more than 7 PB of storage and seamlessly works with bandwidth-demanding uncompressed 4K content. The A-Class is an integral piece of PROMISE’s end-to-end solution for high-performance rich-media workflows.
Pegasus2 is the first and only storage solution designed to work with Thunderbolt 2-enabled systems, such as the all-new Mac Pro. Supporting the maximum 20-Gbps throughput of Thunderbolt 2, Pegasus2 can simultaneously stream, edit, and back up uncompressed 4K/Ultra HD video and has massive storage capacity for backing up creative projects and digital libraries.
Quantum
Quantum will highlight its Lattus object storage and StorNext 5 appliances. From broadcasting live sports events to promotion, scouting, game preparation, and highlight reels, sports-content production faces increased challenges under tightening deadlines. Built to address HD, 4K, and beyond workflows, StorNext storage collaboration product has been re-architected to deliver five times the scale, up to 10 times the performance, and native support for next-gen object storage and LTFS tape. Additionally, Quantum’s Lattus-M object storage combines nearline archive with StorNext’s automated tiering to effectively help studios manage growing content and assets in the cloud or on-premise.
Ross Video
Ross Video will have representatives on hand to discuss integrated production solutions for networks, conferences, and remote-production operators. Ross has been a leading technology provider in college-produced productions aired on various network platforms and can customize content and live production solutions to meet any application requirements. Some recent adopters include Big West Conference, Notre Dame, Duke, University of North Carolina, Clemson, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, and NC State. Ross recently acquired MCP, a premium full-service mobile sports-production packager. Ross plans to transform Ross MCP into a national mobile-production company.
The Studio – B&H
Several interesting solutions being showcased by The Studio – B&H. The brand-new Teradek Bolt Pro 2000 offers up to 2,000 ft. of wireless HD transmission and adds support for 3G/HD-SDI as well as 1080p60 and a low latency of less than 1 ms. The Bolt Pro 2000 will be attached to a Sony CineAlta 4K PMW-F5 equipped with a ⅔-in. ENG lens via the recently announced LA- FZB1 B4 adapter. After the success of several 4K broadcasts with the PMW-F55, the CineAlta Super 35 sensor cameras are now available for true ENG work. Capable of recording HD, 2K, and 4K at high frame rates up to 240 fps, they will offer unequaled opportunities for higher-quality sports content.
Also on display will be the new Sony PXW-Z100 4K XDCAM camcorder. An affordable addition to 4K Sony cameras, the PXW-Z100 offers the XVAC 4:2:2 10-bit intra-frame codec, a G lens with 20X optical zoom, dual XQD memory-card slots to record Full HD (1920×1080), QFHD (3840×2016), and true 4K (4096×2160) content, all in a familiar handheld form factor.
Another solution targeted toward sports broadcasting will feature a Livestream HD900 system in an integrated platform for ultra-mobile multi-camera environments.
The Switch-HTN Sports Group
The Switch-HTN Sports Group announced today that Major League Soccer has signed a three-year agreement for full-time video and data connectivity. Beginning with the 2014 MLS season, MLS will rely on The Switch-HTN Sports group for full-time video connectivity for game transmission for every MLS game to be used for international productions, highlight distribution, and archival purposes. Additionally, The Switch-HTN Sports Group will provide full-time data connectivity from every MLS stadium to the league office in New York and between VISTA Worldlink in South Florida and the league office.
The agreement between The Switch-HTN Sports Group and MLS will connect 18 stadiums supporting 19 clubs. It will also support future league expansion, including the addition of New York City FC and Orlando City SC for the 2015 MLS season.
Wohler
Wohler will feature its MPEG family of video monitors, including the MPEG-4290, a 4RU system with two 9-in. screens; the MPEG-3270, a 3RU system with two 7-in. screens; and the 2RU MPEG-2443 with four individual 4.3-in. screens and decoders. All the MPEG series monitors provide convenient at-a-glance monitoring of program content from MPEG-2/4 ASI and Ethernet IP streams as well as 3G/HD-SDI inputs.
The Wohler AMP1-MADIe is an in-rack portable MADI monitor unit with Ethernet control and configuration, including compatibility with the Evertz MAGNUM facility-control system. Suited to sports production and other live broadcasts, it can be connected in series with a 56- or 64-channel MADI stream to provide audible monitoring and metering of any eight selected MADI channels at once.
Wohler’s new AMP1-16M dual-input SDI audio monitor provides broadcasters high-performance monitoring of embedded audio in two 3G/HD/SD-SDI streams at an attractive price point.
Wohler will also present its flagship AMP2-E16V audio/video-processing monitor. Its feature list is the longest in the industry, yet the product is operated with one-touch simplicity.
