Eutelsat Group Joins Greening of Streaming
Story Highlights
Greening of Streaming a not-for-profit member organization focusing on the streaming industry’s development of joined-up engineering strategies to reduce energy waste in the delivery infrastructure, today marks a milestone as it welcomes Eutelsat Group, a key satellite player in the broadcast and telecoms sector, as a new member.

Eutelsat Group is a leader in satellite communications, delivering connectivity and video services worldwide. It is the first fully integrated GEO-LEO satellite operator, with a fleet of 35 Geostationary satellites and a Low Earth Orbit constellation of 600 satellites.
Distributing more than 6,500 television channels to 1 billion people worldwide, the company accompanies clients at every stage of transmission: from uplinking images the moment they are filmed to delivering channels directly to TV homes, feeding cable and IPTV head-ends and DTT transmitters, and leveraging the power of satellite broadcasting to deliver high-quality video streaming services to mobile devices, irrespective of the local internet connection.
Laurence Delpy, President of the Video Business Unit, says: “We are delighted to join the Greening of Streaming organization. Satellites bridge the communications divide, enabling populations to be connected, informed, educated and entertained, no matter how remote their location. New developments, such as the DVB-NIP standard, are enabling us to combine the efficiency of broadcast technology with broadband network techniques, complementing terrestrial networks to deliver a high-quality video streaming experience to users wherever they are located. We are keen to work with stakeholders across the value chain to better understand the impact and electrical consumption of video delivery, both to improve our own energy efficiency and to consider the role of satellite in developing more sustainable video streaming solutions.”
President of Greening of Streaming, Ben Schwarz, notes, “I’m truly excited to have our first satellite company with deep roots in broadcasting and telecoms join GoS. With Eutelsat on board, we will be able to understand sustainability issues in hybrid distribution situations, including satellite links and satellite broadcast.”
