Mariners Fans Say Goodby to Blackouts
The Stream app is available now for $19.99 per month. Fans who already have the ROOT SPORTS regional sports network through a participating cable, satellite, or streaming provider will be able to authenticate into the new ROOT SPORTS Stream app to access the content at no extra cost.
“Our goal is to connect fans to Mariners baseball in as many ways as possible,” the team’s President of Business Operations Kevin Martinez said in a statement. “The new ROOT SPORTS Stream app is an excellent complement to the existing, valuable partnerships ROOT SPORTS has with TV providers to bring Mariners baseball to all fans in the Pacific Northwest.”

With the new ROOT SPORTS Stream app fans can see Mariners Baseball and all ROOT SPORTS programming live, including live and on-demand Mariners baseball. The app also offers cross-device access with a user-friendly interface and seamless authentication for existing ROOT SPORTS subscribers.
“We know fans are eagerly anticipating Mariners Opening Day and we are thrilled to offer them another way to access ROOT SPORTS,” said Sabrina Taylor, Vice President of Affiliate & RSN Operations at ROOT SPORTS. “ROOT SPORTS Stream includes new features and a refreshed interface that will appeal to both existing TV Everywhere users as well as new direct-to-consumer subscribers.”
The ROOT SPORTS Stream app is available to fans living in the Mariners television territory as defined by Major League Baseball, including Washington, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, and portions of Idaho. The app available now at RootSportsStream and on iOS and Android mobile devices, Apple TV, Android TV and Amazon Fire TV. In addition, the App will be coming soon to Roku, with further device releases planned.

MLB Clubs Continue to Adapt to New Normal for Regional Rights
The Mariners are the latest MLB club to announce a DTC streaming option for its in-market fans. Last week, NBC Sports Regional Networks announced a new partnership to stream games direct-to-consumers for three MLB Clubs: Athletics (NBC Sports California), Giants (NBC Sports Bay Area), and Phillies (NBC Sports Philadelphia) – through MLB.TV during the 2025 season. With the NBC regional deals and launch of ROOT SPORTS Stream, 27 of the 30 MLB Clubs now have a DTC streaming option available in market, which effectively eliminates local blackouts for their fans.
As the regional sports landscape continues to evolve and the RSN model suffers from the rise in consumer cord-cutting, MLB clubs are adjusting their business models and incorporating more DTC streaming options. Prior to the 2023-24 season, the Mariners increased their ownership stake in the ROOT SPORTS RSN from roughly 70% to 100% and the goal of a direct-to-consumer option became a top priority.
ViewLift Continues DTC Growth in Regional Sports and Beyond
The ROOT SPORTS Stream app is powered by ViewLift, which now handles streaming platforms for 11 top-tier US professional sports teams.
“Our mission is to help leading sports organizations meet their fans where they are—on the devices and platforms they use every day,” said Rick Allen, CEO of ViewLift. “With the launch of ROOT SPORTS Stream, the Mariners are transforming the fan experience in one of the most innovative tech-forward regions of the country. We’re proud to add them to the growing list of pro teams who trust ViewLift to power their direct-to-consumer streaming.”
