Story Highlights
Commissioner Jessica Berman has signed a multi-year contract extension to continue leading the National Women’s Soccer League into its next era of growth and global expansion.
Since joining the NWSL in 2022, Berman has overseen a period of transformation, including record-breaking media rights deals, unprecedented club valuations, a new collective bargaining agreement, and the successful expansion into multiple new markets.
Under her leadership, the league has redefined standards for professional women’s sports through enhanced player investment, commercial partnerships, and a strong commitment to integrity and governance.
“Jessica’s leadership has been instrumental in transforming the NWSL into a global sports property,” says Carolyn Tisch Blodget, Gotham FC owner and NWSL Executive Committee Chair. “Her vision for sustainable growth, along with her ability to fuel enduring momentum, has positioned the league for long-term success.”
“It’s been the honor of my career to lead the NWSL during such an extraordinary period of growth,” says Berman. “Every success we’ve achieved, from expansion to investment to the player experience, is the result of collaboration across this league. I’m proud of what we’ve built and even more excited about where we’re headed. The best is yet to come.”
Under Berman’s leadership, the NWSL has:
- Secured a $240 million media rights deal with CBS, ESPN, Amazon, and Scripps Sports. Additionally, CBS and ESPN increased their investment in a mid-cycle media package and Victory+ was added as a fifth media partner for 2026 and 2027.
- Reached record-breaking commercial growth, including a 200%+ increase in league-level sponsorship revenue and a 150%+ increase in club-level investment since 2022. Under Berman’s leadership, the NWSL has doubled its partner base and built a portfolio that combines Fortune 500 brands with strategic partnerships aligned to the league’s mission, values, and global ambition.
- Expanded from 12 to 17 clubs with record-setting valuations and marquee ownership.
- Reset its culture through structural reforms and player safety programs that have become models for other leagues.
- Empowered players through the collective bargaining agreement providing full free agency, investing in personal and professional development off-the-pitch, and supporting players who want to be mothers.
Her continued tenure ensures the league will build on that foundation, strengthening the pathway for the next generation of athletes and cementing the NWSL’s role as an influential global sports league.
