The 4th Annual Juno Cup to broadcast on MTV for the First Time

Canadian
Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced the first round of all-star and celebrity players confirmed for the annual JUNO Awards hockey tradition benefiting CARAS’ music education program, MusiCan. In addition, MTV announced broadcast details for the match, which for the first time will allow music and hockey fans from across the country to participate in the action. The 2007 Juno Cup airs live on MTV on Friday, March 30 at 9 p.m. ET as well as on MTV.ca, CTV.ca and TSN.ca.

Tickets for the popular hockey match-up between NHL Greats and The Rockers go on sale this weekend on Saturday, February 24 at 10 a.m. (CT). Juno Cup fans can purchase tickets at $15 per ticket (plus service charges) through Raiders Ticketing at the Art Hauser Centre or by calling 306-764-GAME.

“Hockey and rock’n roll are two beloved pastimes shared by many Canadians,” says Melanie Berry, CARAS President. “Juno Cup has grown over the years to become a favorite tradition of Juno Weekend festivities and engages both sports and music fans at one great event for a worthy cause.”

Saskatchewan native and hometown hockey hero Wendel Clark will lace-up for the NHL Greats as he reunites with his Toronto Maple Leafs team mates Russ Courtnall and Gary Leeman who all belonged to the legendary TML line-up dubbed by hockey fans as ‘the Hound Line’, nicknamed because all three players are alumni of Saskatchewan’s Notre Dame Hounds.

Also confirmed to play is Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame member Paul Coffey and hockey great Mark Napier, who both fit in perfectly with their fellow all-star players. A stellar line-up with the power of Clark aka ‘Captain Crunch’, the scoring prowess of Coffey, the skating skills of Courtnall, puck-handling of Leeman and blinding speed of Mark Napier, the NHL Greats will be a tough team to beat. Former New York Islander Brad Dalgarno, Toronto Maple Leaf Mike Pelyk and tough guy Bob Probert will also play for the NHL Greats at this year’s Juno Cup.

All nine confirmed players on The Rockers team are 2007 JUNO Award nominees and will be competing for a different reward as they take to the ice on Friday night to help support music education programs across the country.

“It’s a great cause, and such a fun game to play,” says Jim Cuddy. “Recruiting players is an easy job as most of the Rockers get to live out dreams playing against these former NHLers. For me as a Leafs fan, it’ll be even more exciting playing against the legendary Hound Line.”

For the first time ever, The 2007 JUNO Cup will get the MTV multi-screen experience. Delivered on two screens – television and broadband – viewers will be able to fully-immerse themselves in the action. Television viewers will be able to watch a one-hour special, live from the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on MTV at 9 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. CT. Hosted by MTV Live personalities Daryn Jones, Aliya-Jasmine Sovani and Johnny Hockin, the one-hour special will feature in game interviews with the musicians, hockey players and play-by-play announcer Michael Landsberg from TSN’s Off The Record. For added entertainment and insight into the game, select players will be equipped with helmet-cams and microphones to bring the essence of the game to the screen and provide viewers with an ongoing dialogue with the hosts.

Meanwhile, the game will be available on demand at MTV.ca, CTV.ca and TSN.ca with an uninterrupted feed of the game so viewers can keep their eyes on the puck, allowing viewers to watch both screens at the same time for the ultimate JUNO Cup experience. Fans who miss the live event can watch at their leisure as the broadcast will be made available on demand immediately following the broadcast on The CTV Broadband Network.

The Juno Cup has grown more popular every year since the first game in

Edmonton at the 2004 JUNO Awards. The annual celebrity fundraiser has raised significant funds for MusiCan, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
