Neulion says IslandersTV surpasses 10,000 subs

NeuLion says IslandersTV, the first 24-hour channel providing content created by the New York Islanders and its partners has surpassed 10,000 subscribers. IslandersTV, an IPTV-delivered service, offers behind-the-scenes content that is not available on any other “typical” media outlet and gives fans a VIP insider experience right from their own computer.

NeuLion’s iPTV technology is the delivery vehicle for Islanders TV. In a rapidly changing media environment, NeuLion delivers a turn-key iPTV solution which allows IslandersTV to offer new and exciting content daily. This TV experience over the web provides on-demand programming for hockey fans any time, anywhere in the world. Using an existing high-speed Internet connection, NeuLion’s iPTV Technology delivers high quality video to a subscriber’s computer.

Viewers can play, pause, fast-forward, rewind and stop action on their screen. “Community features” bring fans together by allowing them to upload their own videos, debate different topics in public forums and watch up to five videos at a time. For fans, it’s a way to access the latest news and information on the team they hold in such high regard. For the Islanders, it’s an outstanding way to reach the fans that are the lifeblood of the organization.

“The New York Islanders couldn’t be happier with the first season of IslandersTV. In a short time, over 11,000 registered users have signed on, and the reception we are getting from our fan base has been nothing short of overwhelming. We have always looked at finding new ways to satisfy our passionate fans from all over the world, and have never found a better way than with IslandersTV. Season one was an incredible success, and we will be vibrant and aggressive in the off-season to give our fans new and exciting content each and every day,” said Josh Bernstein, Vice President of Marketing and Communications of the New York Islanders

IslandersTV features include: one-on-one with head coach Ted Nolan, in-depth interviews with the GM Garth Snow, daily shows from Islanders’ practice, interviews with Islanders legends, weekly reporter roundtable shows, pre and post game coverage and rare behind the-scenes footage.

The success of IslandersTV has led to the recent launch of Rangers On Demand, founded by the New York Rangers hockey team. The PC based service delivers a similar type of content and is powered by NeuLion via their official website www.newyorkrangers.com to fans worldwide.

“We welcome the opportunity to work with other hockey clubs and bring this amazing service to their fans,” said Chris Wagner, Executive Vice President and Co-Founder of NeuLion Inc.

IslandersTV launched in September 2006 and is currently open to the public through the New York Islanders official website www.newyorkislanders.com. To date, there are approximately 680 videos available on the service, many of which give an “insider’s look” into the team and organization. Sponsors have embraced this new platform and are looking forward to expanding their relationships with the New York Islanders through this new way of reaching a broader audience.
