Michael Lynch Joins ABS as Broadcast Engineer
Story Highlights
Systems integration firm Advanced Broadcast Solutions (ABS) recently
expanded its engineering department with the addition of Michael Lynch
as broadcast engineer. He is primarily responsible for producing
engineering drawings that illustrate the inputs, outputs, and other
interfaces each new piece of equipment will have when installed in
a customer’s broadcast-facility infrastructure. Lynch also works
closely with ABS VP Mark Warner to develop plans and
drawings for incoming broadcast and new-media projects, such as IPTV
and mobile TV.
“ABS was looking for someone who was very detail-oriented, with sufficient depth of knowledge and expertise in broadcast television to develop drawings representing all phases of broadcast-systems-integration projects,” says Lynch. “I was intrigued by the fact that ABS has been growing and expanding rapidly beyond its traditional broadcast-television roots to encompass IPTV, mobile TV, and other challenging new media. With my many years of experience in this industry, I felt I could bring some good insight to the table and at the same time learn another side of the broadcasting business.”
Explains ABS President Mark Siegel, “To fuel our expansion, we were looking for someone with a unique set of talents and expertise, and we found what we were looking for in Michael. He brings an extensive background in broadcast automation, traffic, and asset management, among other critical aspects of digital television broadcasting.”
Lynch comes to ABS following nine years as a senior broadcast system engineer and manager of client training at Sundance Digital Inc., a division of Avid Technology in Irving, TX. During his tenure with this industry-leading broadcast-automation company from July 1999 to April 2008, Lynch developed television-automation-system training courses, including the syllabus, lesson plans, and client note-taking guides for seven major software/hardware applications. He developed, wrote, and composed five Sundance Automation system-installation and operating manuals, as well as provided training for newly hired field engineers and customers.
Lynch also worked as a field broadcast-systems trainer for Odetics Broadcast, another broadcast-automation company in Anaheim, CA, from 1993 to 1995; and as deputy chief of operations for the U.S. Air Force Broadcasting Service, at Kelly AFB, TX. In both positions, Lynch was instrumental in developing training curricula and standards.
As an experienced commercial pilot with flight-instructor certification, Lynch will also fly the company airplane, a Beechcraft Bonanza, which he calls one of the perks of the job. From 1995 to 1999, Lynch worked for the Air Force Services Agency at Kelly Air Force Base, TX, as a Kelly Flight Center Manager. Lynch received several prestigious honors and awards from U.S. Air Force management and Department of Defense journalism schools. Among his many educational achievements, Lynch graduated with honors from USAF Senior NCO Academy, at Gunter AFB, AL, in 1988.
