Grass Valley, Sensio Collaborate on 3D
SENSIO Technologies is collaborating with Grass Valley at the 2010 NAB Show to demonstrate the future integration of the SENSIO 3D Encoder IP Core with the Grass Valley ViBE EM3000 H.264 HD Encoder. The demo at the Grass Valley booth will show how H.264 compression algorithms will be optimized by Grass Valley and SENSIO for delivery of superior-quality 3D images, even at the smallest bit rates required for broadcast or VOD services. The two companies will introduce their forthcoming solution at this year’s NAB and will work closely together thereafter to optimize their collaborative solution.
“SENSIO is an internationally recognized expert in the development and deployment of 3D technologies,” says Christophe Delahousse, Senior Vice President of Headend and Transmissions business units within Grass Valley. “The quality of encoded images is paramount to us as well as the ease of integration with a solution such as SENSIO’s. We want to offer our customers a professional-grade 3D solution that, in turn, will give viewers the benefit of an immersive live-3D experience, delivered over the existing 2D infrastructure. We want to deliver solutions which are based on proven and very popular products, which guarantee image quality and best use of bandwidth. Integration of SENSIO’s 3D technology with our HD encoder will give broadcasters a powerful yet cost-effective solution for top-quality 3D, both now and on the 3D broadcast infrastructure of the future.”
SENSIO 3D technology is a professional-grade, frame-compatible stereoscopic compression technology. The SENSIO 3D Encoder IP Core leverages this technology to combine two streams, from any video source, into a single stream that can be transmitted throughout the existing broadcasting infrastructure for visually lossless encoding that yields outstanding results. The ViBE EM3000 H.264 HD Encoder uses the compression efficiency and advanced pre-processing of Grass Valley’s Mustang video-compression architecture to deliver clearer pictures with increased depth and clarity. The Grass Valley encoder’s ability to use the entire MPEG-4 AVC toolset will enable optimization of the system’s encoding algorithms to ensure exceptional quality in the SENSIO 3D format.
“This collaboration with Grass Valley further demonstrates the compatibility of our advanced 3D technology with products from leading broadcast equipment manufacturers, a rapidly growing number of which are turning to SENSIO for professional 3D solutions,” adds SENSIO President and CEO Nicholas Routhier. “We look forward to showing NAB attendees the high image-quality this joint solution will offer, over the variety of bitrates required by today’s broadcast networks.”
