The Number 1 Movie in the World is a 3D Conversion
Story Highlights
As zap2it.com‘s Chris E. Hayner reports, Steven Spielberg is once again king of the box office, but in a very unexpected way. While “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” may have taken the top spot for the weekend domestically, “Jurassic Park 3D” was the number one film around the world.
The movie’s 3D release was able to take in $30 million in ticket sales over the weekend, almost entirely due to its debut in China, which raked in $28.8 million. The country is becoming more of a power in the film world, as the audience grows bigger and embraces new 3D and projecting technology.
People in China were even treated to a special cut of “Iron Man 3” in May, with extra scenes filmed specifically for a release in the country. The movie’s additional scenes featured Chinese actors Wang Xueqi and Fan Bingbing.
The $30 million weekend brings “Jurassic Park 3D” to a worldwide gross of $89.9 million. Even with that success, “Jurassic Park 4” is still on hold.
