CSN Philadelphia Receives Edward R. Murrow Award
Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia was awarded a 2014 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for “Searching for Wilt,” the story of a small town mayor looking for confirmation of a legend in its midst.
Since 2011, Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia has been awarded six Murrow Awards, including a national honor in 2012 for “Remembering Richie,” an inspiring story on a Philadelphia-area native who lost his life on September 11, 2001.
The regional winners are automatically entered in the national Edward R. Murrow Awards competition, which will be judged during the summer. National awards will be presented at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City on Columbus Day.
“Searching for Wilt” is the story of a small town mayor who wanted to find out if a rumor was true. Carl Raub is the mayor of Richlandtown, Pennsylvania, a small town about 60 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The rumor that Raub is trying to substantiate is one that involves one of the biggest sports heroes in the last half century, Wilt Chamberlain. On Palm Sunday, with the help of the public and some “divine intervention” the Mayor finally got an answer that the Big Dipper did dunk at Benner Hall. That once mythical place had now become a building that housed a legend.
“Searching for Wilt,” shot and produced by Comcast SportsNet Sr. Executive Producer/Special Projects Brad Nau and voiced by John Boruk, originally aired on Comcast SportsNet on May 19, 2013. The award-winning feature can be viewed here:
