NextVR To Partner With Notre Dame for Virtual-Reality Coverage of Saturday’s Football Game vs. Stanford

The number of collegiate athletic departments looking to test their mettle in the virtual-reality space continues to grow as the University of Notre Dame will partner with VR giant NextVR to offer content from Saturday night’s football game vs. Stanford.
NextVR will deploy multiple virtual-reality cameras around Notre Dame Stadium to build VR highlight packages for distribution to its Oculus app.
In partnership with Notre Dame’s national television partner, NBC Sports, NextVR will deploy multiple virtual-reality cameras around the field to provide viewers with a variety of angles and vantage points for viewers to experience the action, including in the stands and on the sidelines.
NextVR will release content for viewing in highlight packages throughout the game. Among the offerings, audio commentary by Notre Dame alumnus Tim Brown and other NBC announcers will be presented in packages distributed at the conclusion of each quarter.
“Our mission is to seek partnerships that will provide fans with unprecedented access,” says Brad Allen, executive chairman, NextVR. “Notre Dame fans are among the most passionate in sports, making this relationship a significant milestone for Notre Dame and collegiate football fans.”
“We are pleased to be working with NextVR, in conjunction with our longtime media partner, NBC Sports, to pilot new fan experiences that bring them closer to the action,” says Dan Skendzel, senior associate athletics director, media and branding.
Some of the additional game-related content that NextVR will look to offer is expected to include behind-the-scenes experiences, such as fan tailgates, the players’ walk into Notre Dame Stadium, and other pregame festivities. That content will be available some time next month.
