NAB 2017: Ericsson Booth To Feature OTT Dynamic Ad Insertion, Captioning Services, 8K 360 Video, AR, Multi-TV VR, and IoT

Ericsson (SU720) will unveil its latest innovations and new products at NAB Show 2017, showcasing its end-to-end portfolio to content owners, broadcasters and TV service providers. Ericsson will present new solutions in three key areas: media enrichment, media processing and delivery, and media publishing. New product launches include MediaFirst Stream Personalization – Ericsson’s dynamic ad insertion solution for OTT streaming – and advancements in captioning services. The booth’s industry innovation zone will highlight developments in 8K 360-degree video, Augmented Reality (AR), multi-TV Virtual Reality (VR) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The company will demonstrate how software, cloud services, global platforms, data-driven outcomes, and intuitive and immersive experiences are enabling all providers to differentiate and compete in the new era of television.

“This year, we are showcasing our end-to-end capabilities and our leadership in a number of critical industry areas, such as the transition to software and cloud, the importance of highly targeted, data driven outcomes, and the evolution of the audience experience,” says Stella Medlicott, Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Media at Ericsson. “Our pioneering solutions and services help our customers reduce complexity and cost, and respond to the rapid rate of change across TV and media.”

Ericsson debuts its dynamic ad insertion solution for over-the-top (OTT) streaming – Ericsson MediaFirst Stream Personalization – enabling broadcasters and service providers to personalize and monetize multiscreen video services. MediaFirst Stream Personalization provides content that is uniquely tailored to the individual. It can work across multiple formats and with any player, offering the capability to insert ads in HLS, Smooth Streaming, and MPEG-DASH. In addition to performing frame-accurate ad insertion and content replacement from the network, MediaFirst Stream Personalization offers comprehensive usage logs, which, when coupled with analytics, enables a deeper understanding of audiences and more accurate business intelligence.

Ericsson’s extensive media enrichment portfolio is further enhanced with the launch of the company’s latest innovations in best-in-class captioning services: Snap Captions, Subito Vault and Subito Conversion and Delivery Engine. These new services form an integral part of Ericsson’s next generation captioning service delivery infrastructure.

Snap Captions is Ericsson’s fastest-ever offline captioning service. It can turn around captioning jobs at lightning speed (a one-hour show can be delivered in as little as two hours), using the same technology advances used to produce real-time captioning. Subito Vault is a single, globally accessible, integrated caption production toolkit that enables cloud-based captioning workflow management, secure management of caption and proxy media files, and a complete caption file archive delivered with a client-facing API. The Subito Conversion and Delivery Engine takes broadcast caption files and automatically combines, offsets and converts them for optimum cross-platform output and delivery. Formats currently supported include SMPTE-TT, SAMI, TTML, EBU-TT, SRT, iTunesTT and many others.

Visitors to Ericson’s booth at NAB Show 2017 will discover the company’s dedicated industry innovation zone showcasing a number of next-generation viewing experiences. These include advancements in immersive multi-TV VR and 8K 360-degree video experiences, enabled by cutting-edge media processing and delivery technologies. Other demos include the integration of IoT devices with Ericsson MediaFirst TV Platform – transforming the TV interface into the control center of the smart home – and AR sports graphics that enrich viewers’ experiences with additional data.
