Monumental Sports Network Launches High School Football Showcase

This fall, Monumental Sports Network — the direct-to-fan digital regional sports network — will launch its inaugural season of live DC-metro area high school football and hockey coverage. Powered by supermarket conglomerate Giant, the partnership will kickoff with the “Giant High School Football Showcase on Monumental Sports Network,” offering fans exclusive weekly live access to games every Friday night or Saturday morning of the season.

Coverage commenced this past Saturday with the DC State Athletic Association’s featured season-opener, featuring No. 6-ranked Friendship Collegiate knocking off host Wilson, 45-0. Coverage moved to Northern Virginia over Labor Day weekend, with the WCAC’s Bishop Denis J. O’Connell who hosted North Bethesda’s Georgetown Prep, on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Monumental Sports Network’s grassroots high school programming features a diverse roster of  teams and events nationwide, including quality production for live and on-demand viewing. This season’s coverage will spotlight the DMV’s top-ranked teams, rivalries, and lineups including:

  • A competitive league in the country, the WCAC, including the conference semifinals and championship game.
  • DC’s legendary Thanksgiving tradition, “The Turkey Bowl,” as part of comprehensive coverage of the DC State Athletic Association playoffs.
  • The first year of a brand-new regional rivalry game: “Clash of Ward 7,” featuring a Top 10 showdown between HD Woodson and Friendship Collegiate.
  • Exciting  new match-ups every week, across the DMV and including public, private and charter schools — nearly half of the teams in the Washington Post’s preseason “All-Met Top 20.”
“The DC-area is teeming with talent at the grassroots level,” says Zach Leonsis, SVP and General Manager of Monumental Sports Network. “We’re excited not only to showcase what our neighborhoods have to offer, but also to create new space for our fans’ passion for sports to extend beyond our city’s pro teams.”

“Giant is excited to support Monumental Sports Network’s coverage of live youth football games,” says Gordon Reid, Division President, Giant Food. “This partnership is a continuation of our efforts to help youth lead healthier lives through multiple channels, including interactions with our in-store nutritionists and offering them healthier products. Nutrition is critical for their performance both on and off the field.”

DMV has to offer all the live, all-access and on-demand action through the Monumental Sports Network’s apps through mobile platforms and streaming services including iOS, Android, RoKu, FireTV, Apple TV, XBox One, and more, as well as monumentalsportsnetwork.com. Subscribers will enjoy year-round live coverage as part of the Network’s commitment to delivering regional high school sports coverage on-the-go, including 120+ basketball, hockey, and lacrosse games in 2017 — with even more planned for the new 2017-18 school year.
