PyeongChang 2018: Eurosport Launches Pop-Up Channels in UK
More than 4,000 hours of coverage will be offered, 900 of them live
Eurosport is launching three pop-up channels alongside Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 that, together with sports-streaming service Eurosport Player, will offer fans in the UK and Ireland the most comprehensive coverage of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.
Eurosport 3, 4, and 5 join Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, and Eurosport Player as the only destination in the UK and Ireland to showcase all the action from the Games. Eurosport’s pop-up Olympic Games channels will be available in HD to BT TV, Virgin Media, and Virgin Media Ireland customers. Extensive live and on-demand coverage will also be available on Eurosport Player — available via www.eurosport.co.uk and the Eurosport app — which will include up to 16 extra bonus channels, ensuring that viewers don’t miss a moment of the action.
Eurosport plans to transform the Winter Games viewing experience with Eurosport Player, offering every minute, every athlete, and every sport for fans to watch across multiple screens and devices — with more than 4,000 hours of coverage, 100 events, and up to 900 hours of live action, as well as expert analysis and daily highlights programming. The five dedicated TV channels will cover a broad mix of disciplines from ice hockey to alpine skiing, with events shown live in the morning and extensive highlights from each day’s Games in the afternoons and evenings.
Eurosport is also launching PyeongChang Today, hosted by gold medalist Jonathan Edwards, a flagship program showcasing the biggest moments from the Games daily at 7:00 p.m. on Eurosport 1. Former skeleton World Champion and Olympic silver medalist Shelley Rudman joins the presenter lineup, along with four-time Olympic alpine skier Emma Carrick-Anderson; Mike Dixon, a competitor at six consecutive Olympic Winter Games in cross-country skiing and biathlon; and Finlay Mickel, one of the UK’s most successful downhill skiers, who made two Olympic Winter Games and four World Championships.
“We’ve invested in launching three pop-up channels to bring fans closer to all the Olympic Games action than ever before, with the most comprehensive coverage and expert insights from PyeongChang 2018,” says James Gibbons, GM, UK, IRL, and ANZ/head of commercial development, EMEA, Discovery Networks International. “It is all part of Discovery’s commitment to bring the Olympic Winter Games to more people on more screens. An unprecedented five TV channels, together with Eurosport Player, will show every minute of the Games, helping us to redefine the Olympic Games viewing experience for superfans.”
