George Washington University Enlists Daktronics for Updated Centerhung Videoboard in Charles E. Smith Center

George Washington University (GW) has asked Daktronics to design, manufacture, and install an upgraded centerhung video display system for the Charles E. Smith Center in Washington, DC. The new system features 125% more pixels than the previous system while also bringing high-definition resolution to each of the four main displays.

“With an enhanced ability and functionality to allow us to feature better image quality and resolution, our live video, instant replays, graphics, statistics, game info and sponsorship execution will be first in class,” said GW Associate Athletics Director Nicole Early. “We are excited to show off the new look Smith Center to our campus community in the fall.”

A 6-millimeter pixel line spacing replaces the previous 10-millimeter spacing to bring true high-definition to all four of the main displays. Each will consist of the same physical dimensions as before, more than 9 feet high by 16.5 feet wide. New to the centerhung will be four corner displays filling the gaps between the main screens. Each corner will match the height of the main displays and will measure 4 feet wide at their widest point.

“This new centerhung is sure to bring a better, more vibrant experience for the fans with our latest 6-millimeter LED technology, including the new LED corners being included in the modified configuration,” said Charley Bocklet, Daktronics regional manager. “We’re thrilled to continue our relationship with GW to provide this new centerhung and we look forward to seeing it making a positive impact on their events this fall.”

The new main displays are also capable of variable content zoning allowing each to show multiple windows of any combination of digital content.

Included with the new equipment, Daktronics Creative Services will also provide a digital content package for GW.
