Olympic Channel Launches New TikTok Page

In support of its objective to engage new audiences and younger generations with the Olympic Movement, the International Olympic Committee’s global Olympic Channel has launched an official account on TikTok.

With just a little more than a month to the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Lausanne 2020 and the excitement growing for next summer’s Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the Olympic Channel will look to engage with young fans and new audiences through TikTok’s unique platform by creating short videos featuring behind-the-scenes content, interaction with athletes and bespoke original pieces.

“Our team constantly strives to inspire and reach young audiences through engaging and entertaining content on platforms where they are most active,” said Mary Byrne, Editor in Chief of the IOC’s global Olympic Channel. “TikTok provides a fun format in which fans from around the world can share and discover new sports, athletes and the stories behind the Olympic Games in a new way. We look forward to showcasing the power of sport to this growing community as the excitement continues to build ahead of Lausanne 2020 and on the road to Tokyo 2020.”

Using a feature-rich product, the Olympic Channel attracts and engages with a new generation of sport fans and has utilized social media platforms as part of its distribution and fan engagement strategies since its launch in August 2016. The Olympic Channel currently has more than 9.4 million followers across its social media handles reaching the highly sought-after and targeted 16 to 35-year-old audience with more than 78% of those engaging with Olympic Channel content on its social media platforms below the age of 35.
