Monday Night Football Experiencing Best Viewership Since 2010

ESPN’s Monday Night Football viewership is at its highest since 2010 through the first nine weeks of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman’s first season and nearly 90 million fans have watched MNF this season, providing a foundation for successes across ESPN’s entire NFL portfolio. Outside of the significant season-to-date viewership, ESPN also introduced two new initiatives this season to immediate success – the Week 2 multi-game option which generated more than 20 million viewers across Disney networks during overlapping game action and the most-streamed event ever on ESPN+ with its first exclusive game in Week 8.

Furthermore, Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli continues to re-write the records for ESPN alternate telecasts, while multiple ESPN studio shows are seeing multi-year viewership highs thus far in the season.

2022 League of Legends World Championships becomes the game’s most-watched event ever

The 2022 League of Legends World Championship has broken the League of Legends esports viewership record by recording a peak viewership of 5.1m.

According to esports data company Esports Charts, this is an increase of 1.1m from its 2021 edition. As a result, the event is the most-watched League of Legends tournament in history and the second most-watched esports event in general, following the Free fire World Series 2021 Singapore.

NASCAR Cup Series: Sunday’s event on NBC earned a 1.86 rating and an average of 3.21 million viewers, ranking as the #2 sport Sunday behind only the NFL.

Viewership was off a slight -1% versus 2021 Phoenix II (3.24 million average viewers), but up +5% over 2020 Phoenix II (3.10 million). The rating was down -5% versus 2021 Phoenix II (1.95) and -1% versus 2020 Phoenix II (1.87).

The race’s 5.19 share was up +4% YOY (2021 Phoenix, 4.99 share) and ranked as the highest share for a NCS Playoffs race since the season finale at Miami-Homestead in 2018 on NBC+NBCSN (5.43 share).  This was the second highest-rated and second most-watched Cup race on NBC this season (8 races), behind only Indianapolis in July (2.05 rating, 3.40 million average viewers).

At peak, 4.1 million viewers were tuned in as Joey Logano won the race and became the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Champion.

ESPN Networks Top College Football Week 10 with Six of the Top 10 Most-Viewed Games – Alabama-LSU Overtime Thriller Delivers 7.6 Million Viewers

ESPN networks won the noon, primetime and late night windows on Saturday and scored six of the top 10 most-viewed matchups of college football’s Week 10. This was the most-watched week of college football on ESPN in six years (since 2016’s Week 12), and ESPN networks remain on pace for their most-watched season since 2017.

LSU’s overtime upset of Alabama on ESPN (7 p.m. ET) delivered 7.6 million viewers and peaked with 10.4 million viewers, becoming ESPN’s most-watched regular season college football game since 2016 (Ole Miss/Florida State, 8.4 million viewers) and the most-watched regular season Saturday college football game since 2015, when Ole Miss/Alabama brought in an audience of 7.6 million. The Tigers/Tide tussle ranks as the sixth-best Saturday ESPN game in network history and sixth-best game on any network this season. The primetime presentation is ESPN’s most-watched non-NFL telecast since Game 7 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals in May and second most-watched since the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship.

ABC’s presentation of Ohio State at Northwestern won the noon window Saturday with 4.8 million viewers – ABC’s best noon game of the season. Other Week 10 window standouts include Florida at Texas A&M (2.7M | ESPN, noon, second best game at noon across all networks) and California at USC (2.0M | ESPN, 11:15p), both ranking among the best games in their respective windows this season.

In all, college football’s upsets, high-octane matchups and rivalries from Week 10 made Saturday, Nov. 5 the most-consumed Saturday of college football across all networks this year (based on minutes watched).

CBS Sports is Averaging 17.763 Million Viewers this Season, Best First Half in Seven Years

CBS Sports reached the halfway point of the NFL season with record viewership across platforms.

The NFL ON CBS delivered its best viewership for the first half of an NFL season since 2015, averaging 17.763 million viewers through Week 9. CBS Sports has recorded the most-watched game of the season – 27.391 million viewers for Week 2’s national game window led by Bengals-Cowboys – as well as three of the top five games.

Sunday’s national game between the Rams and Buccaneers was the most-watched television program of the week on any network. Tampa Bay’s last-second victory averaged 20.250 million viewers, an increase of +12% vs. last year’s comparable national game window.

The regional game window, led by the Jets’ victory over the Bills, averaged 13.876 million viewers.

Paramount+, featuring live NFL ON CBS local market games, has recorded its most-streamed NFL season through the first nine weeks and Sunday’s coverage scored double-digit year-over-year growth in households, minutes and average minute audience (AMA) vs. last year’s comparable window.
