Media Australia Secures New Agreement for Speciality Cameras for Coverage of Wimbledon

Gravity Media details a new agreement with The All England Lawn Tennis Club for the ongoing provision of NetCam camera technology designed and developed in Australia for the global television coverage of The Championships, Wimbledon.

The new agreement from 2024 builds on Gravity Media Australia’s successful deployment of NetCam at The Championships since its debut in 2018.

Along with The Championships, Gravity Media Australia’s NetCam is also an integral part of the US Open Tennis Championships and will once again be in place for next year’s Australian Open Tennis Championships.

Capturing the action at the world’s major tennis tournaments, Gravity Media Australia’s NetCam is used across Grand Slams and ATP and WTA Finals and delivers a unique viewing experience allowing audiences to enjoy a whole new perspective of the sport.

Gravity Media’s NetCam features a dual UHD (ultra high definition) camera platform with two simultaneous 12g-SDI digital video transmission outputs (one from each camera). This allows both players to be filmed simultaneously, ensuring the most exciting footage is broadcast to viewers all over the world.

Discretely mounted within the centre strap of the net, just behind the white vertical adjustment strap, NetCam allows viewers to enjoy the match from an entirely new vantage point. With a courtside fibre converter transforming signals into the optical format, shots from the centre of the court can be transmitted via a mobile control room or production truck in an instant.

Gravity Media Australia’s Globecam unit is known for creating high-definition digital miniature live broadcast devices that entertain and engage viewers all over the world with footage captured from exciting new angles and perspectives.

Globecam is behind a number of world-first innovations, including speciality in-car camera technologies for the V8 Supercars Championship in Australia, HelmetCam and UmpireCam which are now a key component of cricket coverage, the NetCam tennis solution which has been used at all four Grand Slams since its launch in 2018, and the Live JockeyCam which has been beaming horse racing images around Australia since 2019.

Globecam sporting applications now span tennis, cricket, rugby, motorsport, cycling, horse racing, golf, athletics and sailing.
