The Board of Directors of GRUP MEDIAPRO Approves the Disassociation of Jaume Roures as a Managing Partner

The GRUP MEDIAPRO Board of Directors approved, at the request of its majority shareholder, the disassociation of Jaume Roures from the management of the Group after 30 years at the helm. At the same time, they ratified Tatxo Benet, also a managing partner, in his roles as president and CEO, positions he has held for over ten years. Roures and Benet have been key figures not only in GRUP MEDIAPRO’s evolution but have also been global references in the audiovisual sector.

All members of the MEDIAPRO management team will also continue in their current roles. Behind GRUP MEDIAPRO’s success, which in thirty years has become one of the world’s leading companies in the creation of audiovisual content, lies the dedication, commitment, and cohesion of the entire management team: Juan Ruiz de Gauna, general director; Eva Abans, financial director; Josep Ensesa, Legal Officer; José Luis Rubio, director of Broadcast and Media Services; Laura Fernandez Espeso, director of The Mediapro Studio; Carmen Fernandez Tallón, director of Innovation; and Carme Anglada, communication director. All of them are fully committed to the group’s future and tirelessly work to satisfy their clients and bring value to shareholders, in a work environment where people come before any other consideration. They are the primary assets of GRUP MEDIAPRO and represent the talent, dedication, commitment, and teamwork of the 7,000 people who work at MEDIAPRO. This has been, and will continue to be, the key to the group’s success worldwide.

Tatxo Benet, CEO of GRUP MEDIAPRO, states, “GRUP MEDIAPRO has become a great company, a resilient company that has always known how to overcome any new challenge. The entire management team and the 7,000 people in the group will continue to do so with the same efficiency, effectiveness, and dedication. The management team and its CEO are fully aligned with the group’s shareholder partners, Southwind and WPP, with whom we wholeheartedly share the company’s future vision. In this regard, there has not only been no disagreement about the future model, but there has also been no change in the foundational project or the values the group represents. And there won’t be any changes as long as this management team is here, because it’s this team that has implemented them for thirty years, and because our shareholders share our project and values, which were key when evaluating their investment in MEDIAPRO. No one has changed them, and no one wants to change them.”

Tatxo Benet also states that “the void that Jaume leaves in the group is immense, and from a personal standpoint, I will deeply miss these wonderful decades of working together, side by side, during which we collaborated to build GRUP MEDIAPRO and make it what it is. But this wouldn’t have been possible without the people in the group, the best professionals in their respective areas. In this sense, GRUP MEDIAPRO will continue to be in very good hands.”

“The inspiration and legacy that Jaume leaves behind are an irreplaceable part of GRUP MEDIAPRO’s DNA and will always be present in this company’s work, reminding us that people come first, that we should never give up on our ideas and dreams, and that working as Jaume did, we will continue to achieve everything we pursue, no matter how challenging it seems, without fear being an obstacle to what talent and effort set as our goal.”

Founded in Barcelona in 1994, GRUP MEDIAPRO comprises over 7,000 professionals in 30 countries. Its main business units: Broadcast and Media Service, The Mediapro Studio, Audiovisual Rights Management, and Innovation and New Audiences, invoiced €1.209 billion in 2022, with an EBITDA of €190 million. The leadership and management of Tatxo Benet and Jaume Roures have been crucial in the development of all its areas of management. For over 15 years, they have supported the development of the Spanish League, especially in the international market, increasing its revenue from €150 million in the 2009-2010 season to over €700 million in 2021-2022. Currently, GRUP MEDIAPRO markets international rights for, in addition to the Spanish League, competitions like the Belgian or Canadian leagues, national teams of Canada, Peru, and Chile, and sports like baseball, golf, paddle tennis, skateboarding, and hockey. GRUP MEDIAPRO has also been a pioneer in marketing premium sports content without ties to telephone service operators.

The promotion of content projects is also an essential part of the trajectory of Tatxo Benet, Jaume Roures, and a management team that is unique in the world in talent, commitment, and competitiveness. In the past thirty years, the group has produced over 50 films, 60 series, and about 100 documentaries, along with numerous entertainment programs. They have worked on projects with directors such as Fernando Leon de Aranoa, Woody Allen, Isabel Coixet, Oliver Stone, Patricio Guzman, Manuel Huerga, Javier Fesser, and Paolo Sorrentino. In three decades, GRUP MEDIAPRO’s projects have been recognized with awards such as the Oscar (2), Goya (34), Golden Globe (2), Emmy (2), Ondas (27), Independent Spirit, European Film Award, and Bafta. Roures’ leadership was also key in projects like the museums of FCB, Real Madrid, and Atlético de Madrid, the Univers room at Cosmocaixa Barcelona, and the Mirador Torre Glòries.

Lastly, Tatxo Benet emphasizes, “we are now celebrating 30 years of existence, and everyone, absolutely everyone – shareholders, the CEO, the management team, and all the people that make up the group are aligned and committed to experiencing another thirty years, at least, with the same success that we have had up to now.”
