Register Today for SMPTE’s Power of Color Symposium, Feb. 6-7 at Clark Atlanta University

Earlier this year SMPTE announced the launch of a new chapter on the campus of Clark Atlanta University and next month, on February 6-7 the University will host the first-ever “Power of Color Symposium” which will focus on the art, science, and engineering of varied aspects of color in the film, television, animation, and gaming industries as it pertains to a range of color aspects such as diverse hues, eye color, and human features.

Current and emerging experts, leaders, artists, technicians, and engineers, from an array of art, science, and technology backgrounds come together to discuss advancements in designing, capturing, and delivering the full breadth and depth of tone, texture, and vibrancy seen in global humanity.

Through in-person and online panel discussions, sessions, and workshops, SMPTE will amplify the voices, insights, and foresight of industry leaders and change agents committed to exploring and expanding topics, conversations, and techniques that advance the power of effective color representation throughout the media and entertainment industry.

Among the highlights will be discussions around improving diversity in the world of broadcast engineering as well as artistic concerns like properly representing the wide range of skin tones. For example, the SMPTE RIS Color Management working group has been tackling the first step of addressing challenges in today’s color management workflows: providing a baseline education of what color management is and why it is important. THat group will  present an introductory primer into color science and how it applies to color management of media content. This information will help provide some technical background to the following presentations that dive deeper into specific color topics.
